Marvel Rivals: What Happened to Loki?

Loki has been temporarily disabled in several Marvel Rivals game modes as part of the buildup to Season 10 and the arrival of Gorr the God Butcher. Since September 8, players attempting to select Loki in casual modes have instead found an empty silhouette where the Strategist would normally appear.

The disappearance isn’t a standard balance change or indication that Loki has been permanently removed. Instead, NetEase appears to be using his absence as an in-game narrative event leading into Marvel Rivals Season 10: Butcher’s Blasphemy, which launches on September 11, 2026.

Where Is Loki in Marvel Rivals?

Loki is currently unavailable in several Marvel Rivals modes.

You can’t select him in:

  • Quick Play
  • Arcade
  • Practice vs. AI
  • 18 vs. 18

Rather than appearing normally on the character selection screen, Loki has effectively vanished from the roster in these modes.

However, Loki hasn’t been removed from Marvel Rivals entirely. He remains playable in Competitive and can still appear in the game’s social hubs.

That distinction is important. NetEase isn’t deleting the hero or disabling him globally, which strongly suggests his disappearance is connected to the Season 10 storyline rather than a technical issue requiring his complete removal.

Why Did Loki Disappear?

The timing points directly toward Gorr the God Butcher, the new Duelist arriving with Season 10.

Gorr’s entire identity revolves around hunting gods, making Loki an obvious target for a storyline designed to establish the new character as a serious threat.

Season 10’s reveal confirms that Gorr is responsible for Loki’s disappearance, turning the missing character into part of the narrative setup for Butcher’s Blasphemy.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Loki is permanently dead.

Marvel Rivals operates within its own multiversal storyline, giving NetEase plenty of room to play with familiar Marvel characters and events. Loki could have been attacked, captured, or simply found a way to avoid Gorr.

For now, his exact fate is part of the Season 10 mystery.

Is Loki Permanently Removed From Marvel Rivals?

No indication suggests Loki is being permanently removed from Marvel Rivals.

The fact that he remains accessible in Competitive is already a strong sign that this isn’t a conventional roster removal.

Loki is also an established playable character with numerous cosmetics. Permanently removing him would create significant complications for players who have unlocked or purchased content associated with the hero.

His disappearance is therefore best understood as a temporary Season 10 event unless NetEase announces otherwise.

When Will Loki Return?

NetEase hasn’t provided an exact date for Loki’s full return to every affected mode.

Marvel Rivals Season 10 launches on September 11, 2026, at 4:00 AM PDT, so Loki’s situation will likely become clearer once the new season and Gorr arrive.

It’s possible that Loki could return shortly after Season 10 begins, but that timing hasn’t been officially confirmed. Players should therefore avoid treating September 11 as a guaranteed return date.

What is clear is that the disappearance is closely tied to the new season’s story.

Gorr Arrives With Marvel Rivals Season 10

Gorr the God Butcher joins Marvel Rivals as a Duelist when Season 10 launches.

He fights using All-Black the Necrosword, which can change form during combat. Gorr can also create Black Berserkers from defeated enemies to pressure opponents.

His Ultimate takes that concept further by transforming All-Black into Annihilare and commanding his Black Berserkers in battle.

Season 10 revolves around a campaign against the gods of Yggsgard, placing Gorr at the center of the conflict. Making Loki mysteriously disappear immediately before the season begins is an effective way of demonstrating the threat he poses before players even get their hands on the new Duelist.

Loki’s Disappearance Is Part of the Season 10 Tease

Marvel Rivals has used its game world to tease upcoming characters before, rather than relying exclusively on trailers and announcements.

Loki is an especially fitting character for this kind of stunt. As the God of Mischief, suddenly vanishing from parts of the game only to become involved in a larger narrative is entirely in character.

For the moment, Loki mains will need to use Competitive if they want to keep playing him. Everyone else will have to wait for Season 10 to reveal exactly what Gorr has done to Marvel Rivals’ missing God of Mischief—and when Loki will make his full return.
