The part players care about most is the balance pass, and that is where the reaction will likely split. Deadpool took a real hit in Vanguard form, Invisible Woman lost some power, and Loki’s damage was toned down, but several already popular names also got buffs, including Phoenix, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Wolverine, Mantis, and White Fox.
For ranked grinders on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and other supported platforms, this patch matters because it changes who wins fights fastest, who survives dives, and which comps stay annoying for another season. NetEase also confirmed that Season 8 launches with major PC storage optimizations, which gives the update extra weight outside pure balance talk.
If you just want the practical angle, the biggest questions are simple. Did your main get stronger, did your bad matchup get worse, and will your ranked games actually feel different on day one. The official notes give clear answers on the numbers, even if the live meta will still need a few days to settle.
The heroes that got hit first
Deadpool’s Vanguard form is one of the clearest losers in the official patch. The Ban Hammer healing while active has been cut from 50 per second to 25 per second, and Dual Desert Eagles damage drops from 36 to 34 in standard form and from 42 to 39 in upgraded form.
That matters because Deadpool loses both staying power and some pressure in the same patch. If you were climbing by outlasting chaos in the frontline, this is the sort of change you feel right away in drawn out fights, especially once heal pressure or focus fire starts stacking up.
Invisible Woman also took a clean nerf. Force Physics push distance falls from 12 meters to 10 meters, and the ability’s damage drops from 55 to 50.
Loki did not escape either, though his changes are more mixed. Illusion Mystical Missile healing ratio rises from 90 percent to 100 percent, but its damage ratio falls from 90 percent to 80 percent, and God of Mischief ultimate cost increases from 4300 to 4500.
The buffs that will get the most attention
Phoenix is going to be one of the first names people argue about. Cosmic Flames direct hit damage rises from 50 to 55, while Spark mark detonation explosion damage drops from 40 to 35, which means NetEase is pulling power away from splash payoff and pushing more value into clean aim.
That kind of trade can still feel like a buff in ranked if the player landing shots was already doing the hard part. NetEase’s own note says the goal is to lower strong area burst while making direct hits feel more rewarding in standard combat.
Spider-Man also got a strong looking damage increase on Spectacular Spin. Damage per single spherical Spell Field rises from 13.6 to 15, taking total damage over 2.4 seconds from 408 to 450.
Star-Lord gets more ammo, going from 40 to 50 on Element Guns, and Wolverine’s Regenerative Healing Factor trigger cooldown drops from 105 seconds to 90 seconds. Those are easy buffs to understand, and they both help aggressive players keep pressure up longer.
Moon Knight, Iron Fist, Squirrel Girl, Mister Fantastic, Emma Frost, and The Thing also got help in this patch. Emma Frost may be one of the more interesting cases because Telepathic Pulse now keeps its falloff delay longer, Mind’s Aegis reposition cooldown drops from 3 seconds to 1 second, and Diamond Form plus Psionic Seduction damage reduction rises from 20 percent to 25 percent.
Why Mantis and White Fox will make support players nervous
Mantis got one of the strangest and most important changes in the patch. Allied Inspiration damage boost drops from 12 percent to 8 percent, but the skill now gives allies a flat 100 movement speed boost.
NetEase says that movement bonus is meant to help with positioning and kiting. In real matches, that means dive comps and rush-heavy teams could still feel nasty even though the raw damage amp is lower, because speed changes often decide who reaches a target first and who escapes with a sliver of health.
White Fox also remains a major talking point after this update. Fox Form Awakening aura healing rises from 25 per second to 35 per second, burst healing per successful attack drops from 35 to 25, and Kumiho Unleashed healing to allies jumps from 40 per second to 60 per second.
The official dev note says the goal is to lower the gap between her best case spam-heal moments and her weaker downtime. For support mains, that reads like more stable team value, which can be scary if you already thought White Fox had too much presence in organized fights.
Devil Dinosaur is the headline addition, but the Team-Up may matter more
Season 8 officially begins on May 15, 2026 UTC, and NetEase is putting Devil Dinosaur at the center of the launch. The update also introduces a new Team-Up called Primal Punishment.
With Primal Punishment, Devil Dinosaur gets 100 bonus health as the Team-Up Anchor, while The Punisher unlocks Ancient Judgement through the Team-Up. That is the kind of mechanic that can change how players test comps on day one, because even when the base hero balance looks familiar, a strong new Team-Up can open fresh cheese or force different bans.
There is also a Team-Up adjustment to Chilling Assault. Its Iced Out Diamond Spell Field grows from 9 meters to 12 meters, and the barrier placement distance is increased to match.
