Marvel Rivals Season 2.5: Ultron Joins the Roster As a Strategist

Ultron has crashed the Marvel Rivals Hellfire Gala, evolved into Actron after stealing Cerebro, and taken over Araco—formerly Iron’s sister world. Once vibrant, the land is now a lifeless mechanical fortress under his rule. With Cerebro gone and Araco transformed, the mutants of Kroa and remaining heroes must unite and fight back.

This storyline marks the debut of Ultron as a playable strategist. He blends consistent healing with deadly energy beams and introduces a brand-new primary weapon for a unique shooting experience. As a flying support unit, Ultron enhances aerial lineups and redefines combat strategy.

Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 – New Modes and System Updates

Launching on June 6, the Battle Matrix Protocol is a limited-time experimental mode where players can create their own hero lineups, modify traits, and enter solo numerical-based tactical battles. Unlike the standard cooperative format, this mode emphasizes independent strategic decision-making.

In this mode:

  • Men grows larger after defeating enemies.

  • Hela fires faster with extreme projectile speed.

  • Psylocke’s ultimate strikes more frequently.

  • Namor commands an expanded aquatic army.

  • Strategist heroes gain ultimates that heal allies and deal massive damage.

Notably, this mode drops the controversial leaderboard designs from Giant-Size Brand Blast, focusing instead on pure gameplay enjoyment.

Season 2.5 also introduces:

  • Hero proficiency avatars in the selection wheel.

  • Two new personalization features: Mood and Emoji systems.

Major Team-Up Ability Changes in Season 2.5 (Marvel Rivals Ultron Update)

This season sees over 50% of team-up abilities changed from Season 0. Six new ones are added, four are removed, and several anchors are swapped out.

New & Upgraded Team-Ups:

  • Venom & Drift: Symbiote tendrils link and heal allies.

  • Punisher & Black Widow: Red Room rifle gains a piercing beam while scoped.

  • Luna Snow & Hawkeye: A terrain-piercing arrow that scales with distance and stuns.

  • Rocket & Penny: Dual spider nests deploy armor packs, cyber webs, and spider tech.

  • Iron Man & Ultron: Potenti lasers heal teammates and damage foes.

  • Storm & Jeff: The Jeffnado ultimate delivers sustained AoE damage.

Removed Team-Ups:

  • Cheering Charisma

  • All Light Agents

  • Ammo Overload

  • Symbiote Bond

Additionally, Araman is removed from the Gamma Charge synergy.

Hero Buffs, Nerfs, and Meta Adjustments

The pace and meta of Marvel Rivals have evolved. Season 2.5 addresses dominant comps, flatline push viability, and overperforming abilities.

Nerfs:

  • Iron Fist, Human Torch, and Psylocke receive power reductions.

  • Emma Frost’s Diamond Form and Captain America’s survivability scaled back.

  • Fantastic Four, Hulk/Namor, and Emma/Magneto/Psylocke team-ups toned down.

Buffs:

  • Punisher, Squirrel Girl, and Storm receive stat boosts.

  • Luna Snow trades higher ultimate cost for stronger regular abilities.

  • Jeff the Landshark gets tweaks for a more varied experience.

Ultron’s arrival, as a flying strategist, introduces fresh lineup possibilities. These changes aim to counter high-mobility builds like Spider-Man and Iron Fist with better support and mid-range positioning strategies.

What’s Ahead in Marvel Rivals Season 3

Starting with Season 3, each season will last two months instead of the previous pace. The developers are working on new heroes and additional changes based on community feedback. The Ignite tournament series also kicks off its first phase in June.

Expect regular balance updates, gameplay refinement, and expanded personalization as Marvel Rivals enters a more competitive and community-driven phase.
