Marvel Rivals Could Launch on Switch 2 as Developers Engage with Nintendo

Recent developer discussions have confirmed that no official plans exist for a PVE mode in Marvel Rivals. During an interview at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, a producer from the development team stated that while PVE is not currently in development, the team continues experimenting with various game modes. If a mode proves to be engaging enough, it may be introduced in the future. This response follows previous speculation in the community about a potential PVE mode.

Danny Koo, Marvel Games’ executive producer, also addressed this topic, acknowledging that some players would appreciate a PVE experience. However, he emphasized that if such a mode were developed, it would need to be significantly different from the current gameplay. The team remains committed to testing new gameplay ideas that align with Marvel Rivals’ design philosophy.

Marvel Rivals in Talks for a Nintendo Switch 2 Release

Another major update concerns the possibility of Marvel Rivals launching on the Nintendo Switch 2. Discussions with Nintendo have already begun, and development kits are reportedly in use. The final decision will depend on how well the game performs on the hardware.

The game was not released on the original Switch due to performance concerns. Even on PC, Marvel Rivals experienced various performance issues, making an optimized release on weaker hardware unrealistic. However, the improved hardware of the Switch 2 could provide a viable platform for Marvel Rivals. If performance remains stable, an official release on Nintendo’s next-gen console may be likely.

Developers Address Data Mining Rumors

A longstanding rumor within the community suggested that developers had been deliberately placing misleading data in the game files to deceive data miners. However, the development team has outright denied these claims. They clarified that any leftover code in the files represents previous design experiments rather than intentional misdirection.

A developer further explained that Marvel Rivals undergoes a complex creative process, with numerous character concepts, prototypes, and mechanics being tested. Some of these elements may remain in the code but do not necessarily indicate future content. The team reaffirmed that their focus remains on developing the game rather than engaging in deceptive tactics.

Year-Long Planning for Character Updates and Events

Insights into Marvel Rivals’ update strategy revealed that new content is planned at least a year in advance. The developers aim to introduce new characters approximately every six weeks, ensuring a steady influx of fresh content. Character selection is influenced by balancing needs, gameplay diversity, and synergy with upcoming Marvel films or comics.

For example, the upcoming addition of The Thing and the Human Torch aligns with Fantastic Four’s launch. Similarly, a new Captain America skin and themed cosmetics coincide with the latest Captain America movie release. This strategy indicates a well-structured content roadmap, ensuring that Marvel Rivals continues to evolve with the broader Marvel universe.

Continuous Experimentation with Gameplay and Meta Adjustments

Beyond character additions, the developers emphasized their commitment to refining Marvel Rivals’ overall gameplay experience. Rather than frequently adjusting existing heroes for balance, the team prefers introducing new characters with abilities designed to counter dominant playstyles. This approach keeps the game dynamic while minimizing disruptive mid-season changes. Additionally, developers are actively testing new gameplay mechanics and potential mode variations.

While nothing has been confirmed beyond the core PVP experience, hints suggest that alternative game modes could emerge in the future. With ongoing experimentation, Marvel Rivals aims to maintain long-term engagement without frequent overhauls to established mechanics.
