Originally a one-person project by Yang Bing, Lost Soul Aside has grown into a PlayStation 5 title developed by Ultizero Games under Sony’s China Hero Project. What began with a short trailer in 2016 is now a full-length action game, backed by Sony’s support for studios in China. Ultizero’s 40-person team is preparing for release on August 29, following years of delays and growing attention.
Sony will showcase the game at ChinaJoy 2025, alongside other titles like Evotinction and F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch. After its recent delay, public interest is returning, especially as previews highlight the pace and control of the game’s action mechanics. The project’s origin as a solo endeavor still informs much of its direction, but now it carries expectations as one of PS5’s most awaited titles of the year.
Lost Soul Aside Combat Focuses on Flow and Control
Lost Soul Aside centers on Kazer, a fast-moving fighter with access to light and heavy sword strikes, magical attacks, and directional dodges. Players can mix and match these moves in real time, with no strict input chains. The flexibility allows for creative attacks while maintaining a smooth flow from one strike to the next.

The game rewards well-timed actions through what Ultizero calls pursuit mechanics. Players who dodge at the right moment can teleport in close. Parrying with precision leads to counterattacks. Combos can launch enemies into the air, keeping them suspended with follow-up hits. Visual effects and animation shifts highlight every transition, but the real strength lies in how easy it is to adjust to different attack patterns.
Alongside Kazer is Arena, a dragon-like entity fused with his sword. Arena provides more than flashy moves—it offers claws, blunt-force weapons, and long-range tools that Kazer can call on during battle. Arena also has support abilities, such as healing, shields, and status modifiers.
Combat System Offers Customization and Strategy
Beyond timing, Lost Soul Aside gives players tools to plan their loadouts. Special fragments discovered in-game can modify Kazer’s weapons—changing damage, appearance, or effects. Players can enhance movement abilities, improve ranged attacks, or create defensive counters, depending on how they build Kazer’s kit.
This system puts the focus on strategy rather than input complexity. Attack sequences can be created on the fly by combining unlockable skills. Players won’t need to memorize long combos to win, but they will need to match the right tools to different enemy types. Arena’s abilities work better against some targets than others, requiring players to think about what to use and when.
Perfect dodges, staggers, and counters all come with bonuses. However, there is no penalty for missing these windows—just fewer chances to deal maximum damage. This makes the game more accessible while still offering strong benefits for players who learn its rhythm.
PS5 Performance and Movement Mechanics
Kazer doesn’t only fight with speed—he moves through the world with it, too. Lost Soul Aside includes gliding, skating, double-jumping, wall running, hovering, and seamless transitions between surfaces. The terrain doesn’t limit movement. In one clip shared by Pure PlayStation, Kazer backflips through explosions, swings from ledges, and chains air movements in a single sequence, all without a break in control.
Arena also supports movement, launching Kazer upward before he dives down with wings. These features keep travel just as active as combat. There are no delays or loading breaks between gameplay and cutscenes, keeping the experience smooth.
The PS5 version includes adaptive trigger support, haptic feedback, and 3D audio. Players with a PlayStation 5 Pro can expect additional visual upgrades, including ray tracing. That said, performance concerns have been raised. The game includes two modes: one targeting 60 frames per second and another offering sharper resolution. Neither mode is perfect yet, and previews have pointed out occasional frame drops and background blur.
