Is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Good? | GAME REVIEW

User Rating: 8.5

Calling all warriors of the Imperium! It’s been a long wait, but the Space Marines are finally back in action! Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2011 game, and it promises to deliver an even more intense and visceral experience. Developed by Saber Interactive, this third-person shooter hack-and-slash will put you right in the power armor of a mighty Space Marine. So, with no more delay, let’s find out!

A Resurrection of Chain Sword Warfare

Space Marine 2 makes you dive deep into the grind of Warhammer 40k fighting right from the very first opening. You control Captain Titus, a powerful superhuman soldier in powered armor, and a seasoned Space Marine. The core gameplay remains well known, it’s a rapid dance of cutting through mobs of opponents with your chain sword, firing bolter rage, and utilizing tactical abilities too!

The combat feels fantastic. Every swing of your chain sword is powerful and heavy, the audio design capturing that gratifying metal-on-flesh crunch. Guns feel powerful, they also have a gratifying recoil and many different ammo choices. Space Marine 2 continues the concept of the very first game with fresh bosses, dazzling actions along with a redesigned dodge system to keep things new and fascinating in the trenches.

A Beautifully Rendered Grim Darkness

Space Marine 2 possesses some spectacular visuals. The surroundings are appropriately grimdark, evoking the destroyed glory of the Imperium of Man and the corruption of the forces of Chaos.

Character designs are extremely detailed – particularly the Space Marines themselves, illustrating the sheer power and dimensions of these superhuman soldiers. The lighting is great, with explosions and gunshots lighting up the battlefield in a madcap rush.

Story for the Bolter Faithful

Space Marine 2 offers a decent story to support the massacre. It tells the story of Captain Titus along with his Ultramarine force under a new and lethal Chaos threat. The narrative will not win awards, but it provides fans what they want, an opportunity to watch the universe from the viewpoint of a punk Space Marine. Do prepare for some huge action sequences, some sharp humor, not to mention a lot of blood and gore.

Space Marine 2 has its advantages (in the environment, fighting along graphics) however it also has its own flaws. Sometimes the level design seems a little linear, with some missions merely following A straight line from A to B.

The better enemy AI (compared to the very first game) is occasionally a bit predictable/formulaic. And also the game itself is not very good outside of the core campaign also. At launch, there is no multiplayer which might disappoint some individuals.

Is Warhammer 40, 000 Space Marine 2 Worth it?

Space Marine 2 has what takes to be one good game. It includes the terrifying fighting, along with the power fantasy of becoming a Space Marine.

Overall, the narrative and level design are not award-winning but act as a good base for the core gameplay to shine through. Space Marine 2 is essential in case you would like a far more linear power fantasy compared to anything else. Keep in mind, in the dreadful darkness of the far future, there’s only war… and glorious chain sword executions.
