Season 4 of Fortnite is now in full swing, with the new weapons at the center of attention. This post explores the best strategies for countering the new mythic weapons. The focus will be mainly on the Captain America Shield, War Machine Arsenal Missiles, and Dr. Doom Gauntlets. Many of the Marvel mythics or items added later in the season might also be countered similarly.
Countering Marvel Mythics Shield Weapons
Two items are most important when playing against these mythics: Shield Bubbles and War Machine Hover Jets, also known as the jetpack. This season, Fortnite Shield Bubbles are guaranteed from upgraded ammo boxes, which makes these boxes a priority throughout the game. Shield Bubbles create a protective barrier, useful against players using jetpacks or shooting with the Dr. Doom Gauntlet or Arsenal Missiles. Traditional cover might not work as effectively, but the bubble blocks a lot of damage. Both the Arsenal Rockets and Dr. Doom Mythic deal significant damage but have long delays for charging or reloading. Use the bubble to block this damage and then capitalize on their downtime to gain an advantage.
Close-Range Combat
In close-range combat, the key is to peak in and out of the bubble to deal damage while protecting yourself. Bullets fired outside the Fortnite Shield bubble don’t enter, and those fired inside don’t exit. Use this to your advantage by jumping, shooting down at the opponent as they approach, and then retreating as they enter the bubble. Timing and positioning are crucial in these encounters, allowing your shots to land while avoiding theirs.
Using Fornite’s Jetpacks as a Counter to the Shield Meta
Jetpacks are also effective counters because many of these items rely on aerial attacks. By flying, it’s harder for opponents to land splash damage on you. The Doom Mythic and Arsenal Missiles have downtime between uses, so dodging one can create a significant opportunity to deal damage. The shield also becomes easier to hit if you can get above or to the side of the blocking player. Being mobile and unpredictable makes it harder for opponents to engage effectively. \
The Captain America Shield’s block can also be broken with consistent fire, which is easier to achieve with the reduced damage threshold this season. If an opponent tries to block with the shield, spraying them with your weapon can easily break their block, giving you an advantage.
Utilizing Cars as a Defensive Tool
Use cars similarly to block damage from these items. Although opponents can destroy them, cars provide temporary protection that helps you turn the fight in your favor. The key is to block damage and then use the time when the opponent is reloading or recovering to deal damage back.
Importance of Range and Timing
Playing at range is also crucial when dealing with these items. Opening the fight with damage, especially with an AR, makes it easier to handle these powerful mythics. The shield has limited range, so the further you are, the more time you have to deal damage while the shield is out of the opponent’s hand. Keeping distance allows you to take full advantage of the shield’s travel time, giving you the upper hand.
