The Rathian’s tail attacks inflict Poison status, which gradually drains your HP for about 30 seconds. Bring Antidotes or Nulberries to counter this effect. Be wary of its Fireblight attacks as well. Its thick hide makes it resistant to flinching unless you’re using a heavy weapon, so patience is crucial.
