Many players target the Fortnite Black market for early access to powerful mythic and Over- powered weapons. If someone has the Legendary Outlaw Keycard and completes the required challenges, they can open a chest deep in the Black Market. That chest contains a dilbit and a legendary weapon, which unlocks access to mythic gear. This sounds like a great way to start a match, but it rarely plays out that way.
The Fortnite Black Market Offers High Risk and Low Rewards
The biggest issue with the Fortnite Black market is its unpredictable nature. These spots attract several players, making them chaotic and inconsistent. Winning often depends on having the best drop. At normal POIs (Points of Interest), you can adjust your path mid-air. That flexibility doesn’t exist at Black Markets.
Loot is limited. Only a few floor loot spots surround the entrance. If another player lands slightly faster and grabs a weapon, your match can end instantly. Even if you land first, poor loot or bad RNG can ruin the start. Getting a gun matters more than just reaching the entrance first. The few weapons available create a high-stakes environment right away.
Loot and Ammo Shortages Make Fights Harder
Even when players win the first fight, they often leave the Black Market under-equipped. Ammo is scarce, which creates more problems when facing a second wave of players or a third-party squad. Buying a weapon from the wall or opening the next room takes time. That delay makes you an easy target if someone else has already geared up.
Loot quality also depends on the Black Market location. The Crime City Black Market, for example, draws attention because of the mythic Shockwave Launcher. But the rest of the loot there usually disappoints. Players often find pump-and-dump shotguns, sticky launchers, or the weaker collateral damage AR. The stronger hollow twister or burst rifles rarely spawn. So, players spend thousands of gold only to end up with an average loadout.
Mythics Help—But They Don’t Guarantee Victory
Mythic weapons are fun to use, but they don’t guarantee a win. If you’re low on ammo or don’t have backup weapons, you’ll likely lose your mythic to the first player with better loot. A solid player landing at a regular POI can get more loot, conserve gold, and stay combat-ready.
Most of the time, those mythics come from defeating someone who already landed at the Black Market. Taking them mid-game feels more reliable than spending all your resources early on. This approach allows you to fight with better odds and a balanced inventory.
A More Reliable Strategy for Early Game Success
Landing at a typical POI gives better results. These areas provide more loot, safer drops, and a consistent early-game path. If mythics are still a priority, hunt down players who took the Black Market route and win them in a fair fight.
The Black Market feels like a gamble. A slightly slower drop or unlucky loot spawn can end your game in seconds. That gamble grows riskier in team modes. In duos, for example, three squads landing in one Black Market quickly turns into a messy fight. Even worse, outside players often wait to third-party the chaos. Even if you win, you might not survive the next wave.
This high-risk strategy can work. But for most players, it won’t pay off often enough to justify the risk. The smarter play is to gear up safely and take mythics later by outplaying your opponents.
