How the Battlefield 6 Season 3 update changes Ranked BR and tank combat

Battlefield 6 Season 3 update | Why tank mains are furious about the new armor damage angles, health regen nerfs, and early game battle royale loot highlights

The Season 3 patch for Battlefield 6 is officially live across all platforms. Update 1.3.1.0 brings a massive overhaul to vehicle damage, introduces Ranked Battle Royale Quads to REDSEC, and completely changes the pacing of early game loot. EA released these changes to make tank combat more predictable and speed up the early game in BR modes.

If you are a tank main or you grind ranked BR, you need to adjust your playstyle right now. The old vehicle angles will get you destroyed instantly. The new Loot Detection feature also means the first 80 seconds of a match are pure chaos. We are breaking down exactly how these changes impact your rank climb and what you should do differently when you drop in.

How the new tank damage model works

Vehicles received the biggest overhaul in this patch. The development team simplified the angle damage model, so you can no longer rely on weird angles to bounce shots. Turret hits always take 75 percent damage. Body hits take 100 percent. If you get hit from a favorable side angle, you take 150 percent damage. The worst spot is the rear, which now takes a massive 200 percent damage.

Tank health regeneration is also different. The delay before healing starts is much longer now. But when it does start, your tank heals to full health instead of stopping at a bracket limit. If your tank drops to critical health, your healing speed drops by 80 percent. You cannot stay in the middle of a fight when your health gets low. You must retreat early or you will lose your vehicle.

Ranked BR and the Loot Detection mechanic

REDSEC now has Ranked Quads. To speed up the early game, EA added a highly debated new Loot Detection feature. When you drop in or respawn, you can see loot containers through walls within 50 meters for 80 seconds.

This mechanic speeds up the initial gearing process. You will not spend minutes searching empty buildings anymore. But it also means other squads will gear up just as fast. Expect heavy firefights immediately after landing. You also get points for assist confirmed events when a downed player is eliminated, which helps your ranked score climb faster if you play aggressively.

Netcode fixes that actually help you win gunfights

The developers finally addressed combat feedback. Pinging is more reliable now. When you take damage while aiming, your weapon physically reacts by moving opposite to the impact direction. This visual cue helps you locate the shooter much faster. They also added a slight delay before entering the aiming animation from a standstill, letting you adjust your position without ruining your aim.

For tank drivers, stop pushing aggressively until you learn the new damage angles. Keep your rear armor protected at all costs. For BR players, use the Loot Detection window to grab weapons instantly and push nearby teams before they coordinate. Expect more balance tweaks in the next minor patch if the tank changes prove too harsh for casual players.
