Honkai Nexus Anima – Everything We Know So Far

Honkai Nexus Anima has finally been revealed, and it might be HoYoverse’s most relaxed and cozy project to date. After Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai: Star Rail, this new game shifts into a softer tone with pet companions, lighthearted exploration, and whimsical design. Here’s a full breakdown of what’s been shown so far.

Honkai Nexus Anima Story and Lore

The world of Nexus Anima revolves around Nexus Threads, mysterious bonds that once tied together opposites like love and hate, light and dark, life and death. A massive event known as The Sundering shattered those threads, scattering fragments across 81 independent universes called planes.

From this collapse came the adorable beings called Anima, creatures you can befriend and battle with. Players take the role of a traveling adventurer who begins in I Town and sets out to uncover who broke the Nexus, with many believing a figure called the World Ender is behind it all.

Sovereigns, Novaks, and Other Characters

The game introduces Sovereigns and Novaks as key world rulers. Sovereigns are god-like figures who once governed paired concepts in the old world. For example, Amstrad is the fifth Sovereign tied to life and death, while Armand is the eighth Sovereign of light and dark.

Following The Sundering, many Sovereigns became Novaks, each now ruling a single concept. Victus, for example, once controlled order and chaos, but now stands only as the Novak of Order.

Familiar names return too. Blade, known to fans of Honkai: Star Rail, is confirmed here as the 22nd Novak, master of the plane called The Peak. He searches for the missing 11th Sovereign, which some speculate might be Kafka.

Outside the divine, players also meet anime masters—companions and rivals who mirror trainers in Pokémon. Early examples include Hua, a youthful adventurer, the oddly named Casio Rolex, and even Kiana from Honkai Impact.

Gameplay Features and Open World

Unlike the more constrained exploration in Honkai: Star Rail or Zenless Zone Zero, this new game leans into a big open world closer to Genshin Impact. Day-night cycles, jumping and hovering, and cozy mini-games such as beach ball shooting or riding animals add a playful layer to the experience.

Customization also seems deeper. Players can design their main character while also switching between others encountered during the journey. Exploration companions like penguins, flying piñata-like creatures, and other Anima can also be used for traversal and puzzles.

Battle System and Multiplayer

The combat system in Honkai Nexus Anima draws from auto-battler formats like Teamfight Tactics. Teams of Anima fight with roguelike elements, buffs, and synergies that players set up before each encounter. While it may not be as interactive as Pokémon-style battles, leaks indicate at least one 3v3 multiplayer mode is planned.

This design suggests the game may target both younger players and adults looking for a lighter, less stressful experience. Whether the gacha system will remain as intense as past HoYoverse titles is still a major concern, but with beta tests now open, players will soon find out more.
