Gum Fruit is one of the strongest Devil Fruits in Haze Seas, and its final transformation, Gear 5, unlocks some of the game’s most powerful abilities. Reaching this form isn’t a simple upgrade, though. Players must first complete multiple progression milestones, defeat powerful bosses, and collect several rare items before the awakening becomes available.
Here’s everything you need to know to unlock Gum Gear 5.
Gear 5 Requirements
Before you can awaken Gear 5, you’ll need to complete each of the previous Gum Fruit upgrades in order.
You’ll need to:
- Unlock Gear 2
- Unlock Gear 4
- Collect Drums of Liberation
- Awaken Gear 5
Each step has its own level requirements and special items.
How to Unlock Gear 2
Gear 2 is the first transformation you’ll need.
Before visiting the trainer, make sure your character meets these requirements:
- Level 750 or higher
- 100,000 Beli
- 300 Gum Fruit Mastery
Once you’re ready, travel to the Level 1900 Island on the far-left side of the Sea 1 map. Look beneath the raised platform near the rocky area to find a hidden entrance leading to Fitness Trainer Yoka, the Gear 2 instructor.
Speak with the NPC, meet the requirements, and you’ll unlock the Gear 2 transformation.
How to Unlock Gear 4
The next step requires obtaining the Gear 4 Book.
This item drops from the Gear 4 Boss, who can also be found on Level 1900 Island. Since the book is a rare drop, you may need to defeat the boss multiple times before it appears.
After obtaining your first Gear 4 Book:
- Travel to Sea 2.
- Visit the large Poneglyph on the right side of Spawn Island.
- Speak with the NPC next to the monument.
- Exchange the Gear 4 Book to unlock Gear 4.
You’ll need to be at least Level 2200 to interact with the Poneglyph.
Unlocking Every Gear 4 Ability
Gear 4 includes five separate abilities, and each one requires an additional Gear 4 Book.

How to Get Drums of Liberation
The final crafting material for Gear 5 is the Drums of Liberation.
This item drops from the Dragon Boss (Kaido), a Level 5000 encounter located on Dragon Island.
To challenge the boss, you’ll first need to defeat 1,000 Soul enemies scattered around the island. Once you’ve completed that objective, the Dragon Boss can be summoned at the top of the giant skull-shaped structure.
Unlike the Gear 4 Book, the Drums of Liberation have a 100% drop rate, so every successful defeat guarantees one.
However, you’ll still need multiple copies to fully complete the Gear 5 progression.
How to Unlock Gear 5
Once you’ve collected the Drums of Liberation, return to the Poneglyph in Sea 2.
Interact with it again and select the Gear 5 Awakening option. Turning in one Drum of Liberation unlocks the transformation itself.
Keep in mind that unlocking Gear 5 doesn’t automatically grant every skill.
Each Gear 5 ability must be purchased separately using additional Drums of Liberation, meaning you’ll need to continue farming the Dragon Boss until you’ve unlocked the entire moveset.
Gear 5 represents the final stage of the Gum Fruit’s evolution in Haze Seas. While reaching it requires considerable grinding, the combination of powerful abilities and enhanced combat potential makes it one of the most rewarding awakenings currently available in the game.
