Gran Turismo 7 is getting another free content update in August 2026, with Polyphony Digital preparing to add four vehicles to the racing game’s expanding garage. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has teased the incoming cars ahead of the update’s release, although their identities have not yet been officially revealed.
Gran Turismo 7’s Next Update Is Coming in August
Yamauchi teased the next Gran Turismo 7 update on August 9, confirming that it will feature four cars and is scheduled to arrive the following week. He also described some of the additions as particularly “niche.”
As has become customary for Gran Turismo updates, the initial teaser shows the upcoming vehicles largely through their silhouettes. That leaves players to identify the models before Polyphony Digital publishes the full update details.
The August release will also end a relatively long wait for new Gran Turismo 7 content. The previous major vehicle update, Update 1.70, arrived on June 11, while July passed without a similar addition to the game’s car roster.
Fans Think They Have Identified the Four Cars
Gran Turismo communities have been analyzing Yamauchi’s teaser, with speculation currently pointing toward four possible models:
- Toyota Chaser Tourer V
- Toyota Mark 2 Tourer V
- Hyundai IONIQ 6 N
- Caterham Seven Superlight R500
Polyphony Digital has not confirmed these identities, so the list remains based on community analysis of the silhouettes rather than an official announcement.
If the predictions are correct, the August update would feature an unusually varied combination of Japanese performance sedans, a modern electric performance car, and a lightweight sports car.
Toyota Chaser and Mark 2 Could Make a Return
Two of the silhouettes are believed to represent the Toyota Chaser Tourer V and Toyota Mark 2 Tourer V.
Both cars have developed strong followings among Japanese performance-car enthusiasts, particularly because of their rear-wheel-drive layouts and turbocharged 1JZ engines. They have also become popular choices within drifting culture.
The Chaser has an additional connection to automotive pop culture, with a 1998 JZX100 appearing in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
Both Toyota nameplates also have history with Gran Turismo, meaning their inclusion would represent a recognizable return for longtime players if the community’s interpretation proves accurate.
Hyundai IONIQ 6 N and Caterham R500 Are Also Rumored
The other two silhouettes are currently thought to be the Hyundai IONIQ 6 N and Caterham Seven Superlight R500.
Hyundai’s performance-focused electric sedan would represent the newest side of the potential lineup. The Caterham, meanwhile, would provide almost the opposite experience with its lightweight, minimalist approach to performance.
A Caterham addition would also mark a notable return for the manufacturer. The brand previously appeared in Gran Turismo 6 with the Seven Fireblade in 2013. If the R500 prediction is correct, August’s update would bring Caterham back to Gran Turismo after more than a decade away.
That combination would also fit Yamauchi’s description of the upcoming cars as somewhat niche, especially compared with updates built around more immediately recognizable supercars and race cars.
Update 1.70 Focused on Endurance Racing
Gran Turismo 7’s most recent major content release was Update 1.70, which arrived on June 11 with five vehicles:
- BMW M Hybrid V8 ’25
- Ferrari 499P ’23
- Peugeot 9X8 ’25
- Porsche 963 ’24
- Porsche 911 Turbo S Safety Car
That update placed a strong emphasis on endurance racing while also expanding other areas of the game with additional World Circuits events, an Extra Menu, and new Scapes content.
Polyphony Digital has continued supporting Gran Turismo 7 with free additions since the racing game launched in 2022, regularly expanding its selection of cars and activities.
More August Update Details Are Still to Come
Polyphony Digital has yet to announce what else will accompany the four cars in the August update. There is currently no confirmation of additional World Circuits races, Café content, engine swaps, Scapes locations, or other features.
Those details generally arrive closer to an update’s release, so Yamauchi’s silhouette teaser is likely only the first stage of the reveal. For now, the four-car update itself is confirmed, while the rumored Toyota, Hyundai, and Caterham models will remain unofficial until Polyphony Digital reveals the complete August 2026 lineup.
