Ghost of Yotei vs. Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Ghost of Yotei, developed by Sucker Punch, is a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima which is set to launch by 2025. It is an adventure game in feudal Japan— Mount of Yotei in 1603. Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the other hand is a game that has two characters— Yasuke and Naoe. The game is in Japan nearing the end of the Sengoku period.
As both games are expected to launch in the same year with features from feudal Japan, comparisons have been rising. But which one comes out on top? Let’s break down a few elements of each game to find out.
Graphics and Immersion
Both games push the boundaries of what’s visually possible, but in different ways. Ghost of Yotei focuses on artistic, almost painterly visuals. These visuals include landscapes and lighting that invites players in an eerie, mysterious atmosphere.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues Ubisoft’s tradition of photorealistic cities. The graphics where it feels like a living, breathing world. The attention to historical accuracy and detail brings a sense of realism that can be quite hard to match.
Gameplay and Mechanics
While Ghost of Yōtei hasn’t released any gameplay footage yet, it’s expected to have the same core features that made its predecessor stand out. This would likely include semi-open world exploration where players can roam the landscape while following a structured narrative. Additionally, the combat system is anticipated to remain skill-based and grounded.
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, stealth is the main focus. The parkour system is smoother, making it easier to move around. Players can use different tools and skills to sneak past enemies. The game sticks to its tradition of mixing stealth with assassination missions.
Storyline and Setting
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set during the Azuchi-Momoyama period of Japan. This is when Japan is nearing the Sengoku period to the Edo period. A number of historical figures also play roles in the campaign like Oda Nobunaga. And similar to Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Shadows has two main characters that you can switch between while playing.
Ghost of Yotei takes players to an island near Japan which is called Mount of Yotei, now Hokkaido. The game will still maintain its theme of playing as a wanderer in Japan. Although, it will focus on a different setting and a new protagonist, Atsu, who was previously Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima.
Which is better?
Both Ghost of Yōtei and Assassin’s Creed Shadows are set in feudal Japan but offer different experiences. Ghost of Yōtei has its artistic visuals and traditional Japanese combat in an eerie location filled with honor and folklore. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Shadows brings a realistic, detailed setting with its usual focus on action with two main characters.
If you prefer a fantasy adventure with deep storytelling, Ghost of Yōtei might be your pick. But if you enjoy a more realistic, stealth-based experience with historical accuracy, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will likely stand out. Which one is better really depends on what kind of gameplay you enjoy most.
