Crunchyroll has shared the first official character visuals for the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime, giving fans their best look yet at several of the series’ main heroes. The artwork debuted during Anime Expo 2026, offering an early preview of the PlayStation adaptation ahead of its scheduled premiere next year.
The reveal marks another major milestone for the project, which adapts the supernatural world of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends rather than the main game’s story.
Assassin, Ronin, and Hunter Take Center Stage
The newly released artwork highlights three of the iconic Legends classes:
- Assassin
- Ronin
- Hunter
According to the presentation, these characters will accompany the anime’s central protagonist, one of the last remaining samurai, as they confront supernatural threats inspired by Japanese folklore.
The illustrations were created by Takashi Okazaki, the acclaimed manga artist best known for Afro Samurai. His designs retain the recognizable appearance of the multiplayer classes while giving them a distinctive anime aesthetic.
The Anime Adapts Ghost of Tsushima: Legends
Unlike the original Ghost of Tsushima, which follows Jin Sakai during the Mongol invasion of Japan, the anime is based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the game’s cooperative multiplayer mode.
Rather than retelling Jin’s journey, the series explores a mythological setting where legendary warriors battle demons, spirits, and other supernatural enemies drawn from Japanese legends.
The Legends mode originally launched as a free multiplayer expansion for Ghost of Tsushima before later becoming available as a standalone release.
PlayStation’s First Anime Adaptation
The series is being produced by Aniplex in collaboration with PlayStation Productions, while Kamikaze Douga is handling animation duties.
The production team includes:
| Role | Staff |
|---|---|
| Director | Takanobu Mizuno |
| Animation Studio | Kamikaze Douga |
| Producer | Aniplex |
| Script & Series Composition | Satoshi Maejima, Gen Urobuchi |
| Character Designs | Takashi Okazaki |
When the adaptation was first announced during CES 2025, PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash described it as the company’s first anime adaptation based on a PlayStation franchise. He said the supernatural mythology explored in Legends made it a natural fit for the medium and praised Aniplex as the right partner to bring the world to life.
Expanding the Ghost of Tsushima Universe
Sony originally revealed plans for the anime in early 2025 as part of its broader effort to expand PlayStation franchises into film, television, and anime.
With its focus on folklore, demons, and legendary warriors instead of historical events, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends offers a different perspective on the franchise while staying rooted in the world introduced by Sucker Punch Productions. Fans can expect to see more of the series as its 2027 premiere draws closer.
