Gaming News & Updates: Oblivion Images Leak, PS5 Price Hike, Ubisoft Rumors

An Elder Scrolls Oblivion remake appears confirmed and arrives shortly. New Star Wars details emerged, alongside leaks concerning PlayStation and Ubisoft, plus additional gaming news.

Starting with Assassin’s Creed, both Origins and Odyssey surpassed 40 million players combined, showing significant interest in the RPG entries. Ubisoft noted that Assassin’s Creed Shadows attracted more players in its first four weeks than its predecessors did, currently tracking ahead of Origins and Odyssey, though behind Valhalla. Estimates place Shadows near 4 million players, exceeding Odyssey’s first month. Mat Piscatella observed Shadows topped US sales for its first three weeks and remains a high performer. Concerns over certain criticisms regarding Yasuke were deemed largely manufactured controversies.

PlayStation Price Adjustments Offer Gaming News

In significant gaming news, Sony increases the PlayStation 5 digital edition price in the UK, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. In Europe, the price moves from €450 to €500. UK prices rise by £40, with Australia and New Zealand seeing $70 and $60 increases, respectively. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) cited economic challenges, inflation, and exchange rates for the decision. US prices remain unchanged. This marks a notable shift where launch prices are lower than later retail prices.

Oblivion Remake and Star Wars Updates

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion remake has leaked via images from developer Virtuos’ website. Comparison shots show impressive visual upgrades over the 2006 original. Reports suggest an improved HUD, less frustrating stamina, added hit reactions, and better stealth/combat mechanics. Bethesda and Microsoft have not acknowledged the leak, likely planning a surprise release soon. The remaster includes all original DLC and hits Xbox Game Pass Day One, PC, and PS5.

Star Wars Zero Company was officially revealed with a cinematic trailer. It’s an XCOM-style turn-based strategy game featuring clone troopers, an Astromech droid, and a Jedi, set during the late Clone Wars. It targets a 2026 release for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. The final Star Wars Outlaws DLC, A Pirate’s Fortune featuring Hondo, arrives May 15th. It introduces a new star system and locations. A free 3-hour demo for Outlaws is available, and the Switch 2 version launches September 4th. Ubisoft continues efforts to bolster the game after its initial weak performance.

BG3 Patch, Rumors, and Upcoming Gaming News

Baldur’s Gate 3 received Patch 8, adding crossplay and a photo mode. The update includes 12 new subclasses (one per class) with unique abilities, automatically available based on class and level. Larian Studios confirmed this as the final major patch for BG3.

Turning to rumors, Tom Henderson reports Ubisoft is developing a new battle royale inspired by Apex Legends, aiming to capture players as Apex potentially declines. Given Ubisoft’s past struggles with free-to-play titles like Hyper Scape, Ghost Recon Frontline, and XDefiant, success remains uncertain. Henderson’s reliability lends credence to the report, but release is questionable. Meanwhile, Bloomberg and leaker Kepler suggest Sony is working on a standalone handheld capable of playing PS5 games at lower resolutions/framerates, with performance between an Xbox Series S and PS5. A launch timed before the PS6 seems plausible.

Looking ahead, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches April 24th on Game Pass, PlayStation, and PC. The Days Gone remaster arrived April 25th with a $10 upgrade option. The Oblivion remake is also expected this week. Ubisoft will host a Division 2 showcase on April 21st for its Battle for Brooklyn DLC, rumored by Tom Henderson to launch late May for $15.
