From Blade to Ghost of Yotei: Best State of Play Moments in 2025

Sony just wrapped up its latest State of Play, and the fallout is packed with updates across Marvel titles, PlayStation Plus plans, and a potential spiritual successor to Factions 2. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know, including the Ghost of Yotei gameplay, upcoming DualSense gear, and what might be next for competitive multiplayer fans.

Ghost of Yotei and New DualSense Revealed at State of Play

Ghost of Yotei made a huge impression during the latest state of play showcase. Ditching the older stance system from previous titles, the game now features multi-weapon combat, a new clue mechanic, and dynamic bounty missions. It even includes a time-shift system tied to the protagonist’s homecoming arc.

PlayStation fans can also look forward to new DualSense controllers and faceplates for both the PS5 Slim and Pro, launching on the same day as Ghost of Yotei—October 2. Visually striking and releasing in sync with the game, these accessories complete the themed experience Sony seems to be aiming for.

The only slight disappointment? The lack of traversal improvements. While some had hoped for more agile movement mechanics, perhaps that will still be revealed closer to launch.

Factions 2 May Get a Spiritual Successor from Former Lead

Fans of The Last of Us multiplayer mode Factions 1 are still mourning the cancellation of Factions 2. But a potential glimmer of hope has arrived thanks to Vinit Agarwal—the former Factions 2 lead—who recently announced he’s moved to Japan and is founding a new studio.

One fan reached out on Twitter suggesting he build a PvP game inspired by Factions, and Vinit not only liked the comment but also followed the fan shortly after. While this could mean nothing—or everything—it’s sparked speculation that something Factions-adjacent could be in the works.

Even a 4v4 tactical title with mechanics from The Last of Us Part II could be a huge hit among fans. While nothing is confirmed, the original Factions community has been vocal in its demand for a revival. If this new studio taps into that energy, it could easily fill a void in PlayStation’s competitive multiplayer lineup.

PlayStation Plus Changes and Classic Content Hopes

Sony marked 15 years of PlayStation Plus with a nostalgic trailer and the message: “We’re just getting started.” Though mostly a recap of its evolution from PS3 to the current three tiers, it hints at more changes coming.

With the Essential, Extra, and Premium tiers now fully in place, fans are asking for real value—namely, PS3 and PlayStation Vita emulation. The Vita remains one of Sony’s most underutilized platforms, with titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss still locked behind legacy hardware.

Sony Bend did a surprisingly good job with that handheld entry, and many fans have never experienced it. Reviving these titles through Premium would finally make the top tier feel complete. Whether emulation or ports are added, Sony must add more reasons to stick with Premium as the price increases.

Marvel’s PlayStation Future: Blade, Wolverine, Iron Man, and More

New information from Arkane Studios and Papers Enterprises suggests Marvel’s Blade is targeting a release window of late 2027. The game reportedly entered full production in late 2024 after its prototype was approved. That aligns with previous LinkedIn details from campaign director Dana Nightingale, who had been involved since 2022.

The next three years look loaded for Marvel fans:

  • 2026: Marvel 1943 and possibly Wolverine or Venom

  • 2027: Blade and one of the above

  • 2028: Spider-Man 3 and Iron Man from EA

This means that from 2026 to 2028, we could see at least one or two major Marvel single-player titles launching each year. That’s a pace that rivals even Star Wars-era releases. And for die-hard Marvel gamers, it’s an exciting future. Whether you’re in it for mutants, web-slingers, or vampire hunters, the PS5 is about to become a Marvel powerhouse.
