The update also dropped Week 6 challenges that unlock the Warden 308 Badlands pistol kit, which converts the marksman rifle into a heavy revolver sidearm. Activision fixed the annoying red screen effect from Warzone’s Berserker perk and patched Free Run grapple exploits where players latched onto opponents for speed boosts. Legacy weapon camos from MW2, MW3, and BO6 are still bugged, but a fix is coming soon.

The Navigator Challenge event started May 8 and ends May 21, 2026, celebrating Military Appreciation Month through a partnership with USAA and retired Navy SEAL astronaut Chris Cassidy. You complete challenges across multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone to earn eight rewards in order: Orbital emblem, Ready to Launch calling card, Navigator loading screen, Launched weapon charm, Mission Accomplished emote, one Battle Pass tier skip, Liftoff weapon camo, and the Katana melee weapon.

The event works across all three modes, so you can mix challenge types based on what you actually play. Warzone players can grind their challenges while multiplayer mains stick to 6v6 modes. Zombies players get their own set of objectives that count toward the same reward track. You unlock items sequentially, meaning you have to earn the earlier cosmetics before reaching the Katana at the end.

The event challenges are separate from weekly challenges. You can work on both simultaneously, but they track different objectives and reward different items. Navigator Challenge progress carries over between sessions, so partial completions still count if you log off mid challenge.

Katana has the fastest swing speed and two-hit kills

The Katana swings faster than every other melee weapon in Black Ops 7, including the combat knife and tactical knife attachments. It kills in two hits consistently across multiplayer and Warzone, matching the standard melee time-to-kill but with better reach than the basic knife. The blade extends your lunge range, making it more reliable for closing distance around corners and through doorways.

In Warzone, the Katana works as a silent elimination tool when you need to clear buildings without giving away your position. Gunfire attracts third parties, but melee kills stay quiet. The extra reach compared to fists or knife makes it safer for pushing downed enemies or finishing low-health opponents who duck behind cover.

Multiplayer players running ninja or stealth builds get better value from the Katana’s range advantage. Standard knife builds force you into extremely close range where shotguns and SMGs dominate. The Katana’s lunge lets you start swings from slightly farther out, improving your odds against reaction-based defenders. It does not change the melee meta completely, but it gives dedicated knife players a better option for aggressive pushes.

Week 6 challenges unlock Warden 308 Badlands pistol kit and Thermal Spike

Black Ops 7 Season 3 Week 6 challenges went live May 8, requiring you to complete any six challenges from a list spanning multiplayer, Zombies, Endgame, and Warzone. Finishing six unlocks the Warden 308 Badlands pistol kit and Thermal Spike major ability for Endgame mode. The Badlands kit converts the Warden 308 marksman rifle into a revolver-style pistol with different handling and damage profiles.

Players who ignore Endgame can skip those challenge options and focus on the other modes. You only need six total completions, so you can avoid entire categories. Warzone-only players can finish all six challenges in battle royale without touching multiplayer or Zombies. The system lets you pick the easiest or fastest six for your playstyle.

Multiplayer challenges:

  • 250 LMG kills

  • 30 kills while sprinting or shortly after

  • Blind enemies with flashbang or earn 5 flash assists

  • 35 kills using lethals or scorestreaks with Overclock equipped

  • 5 eliminations with secondary or melee weapons

  • Kill your nemesis 5 times

Warzone challenges:

  • 10 kills shortly after grappling

  • 15 LMG eliminations

  • 1 kill using a killstreak

  • Get 3 kills without dying, do this 5 times

  • Kill an enemy recently damaged by your lethal, do this 5 times

  • Open a mystery box inside the Cradle Gas

Endgame and Co-op challenges:

  • Eliminate 300 human or Guild Tech enemies

  • Clear toxin fields or sources 3 times

  • Resupply teammates 10 times with Supply Link ability

  • 300 LMG kills

  • 75 kills with Drone Pod or Hands Cannon abilities

  • Eliminate 3 Titans or Rhinos

Zombies challenges:

  • Survive 50 rounds on Totentike in Cursed mode

  • Earn 25 Massacre medals (10 zombie kills with LMGs per medal)

  • 200 melee weapon kills

  • Kill 200 zombies suspended by Glock Drops

  • Complete 10 TED tasks in Cursed

  • 150 scorestreak kills

The LMG kill challenges overlap across modes, making them faster if you run LMGs in your regular loadout anyway. The grapple kill challenge in Warzone pairs well with aggressive drop strategies in hot zones. Flash assist challenges in multiplayer work on objective modes where enemies cluster on points.

Warden 308 Badlands turns a marksman rifle into a heavy pistol

The Warden 308 Badlands pistol kit changes the weapon entirely, converting it from a semi-auto marksman rifle into a revolver-style sidearm. This is not a standard attachment. It alters the weapon class, handling stats, and likely damage ranges. Players tested similar conversion kits in past seasons, and they typically reduce range but improve mobility and hip-fire accuracy.

The base Warden 308 sits in the middle of the marksman rifle tier, used less often than meta picks like the SVD or Dragunov equivalents. The Badlands kit gives it a second purpose as a backup weapon for sniper or AR players who need a strong close-range option without switching to a full SMG secondary. Overkill users running two primaries might skip this, but Ghost class players benefit from a pistol that hits harder than standard sidearms.

Expect the Badlands to work best within 15 meters, similar to other heavy pistols like the Desert Eagle variants from past games. Damage-per-shot will be high, but fire rate stays slow to balance the revolver style. You will not out-DPS SMGs in straight gunfights, but you can punish missed shots and win trades against hurt enemies.

Thermal Spike ability for Endgame focuses on crowd control

The Thermal Spike major ability unlocks alongside the pistol kit and slots into Endgame loadouts as a crowd-control tool. Players using damage-focused builds or support roles get the most value. Thermal Spike likely creates area denial or slows groups of enemies, similar to other zone-control abilities in the Endgame mode.

Endgame players already running Drone Pod or Hands Cannon can swap to Thermal Spike for matches with heavy enemy density or choke point maps. The ability works better when you coordinate with teammates who can capitalize on slowed or grouped targets. Solo queue players may find other major abilities more reliable for consistent impact.

Warzone removed Berserker perk red visual effect after player complaints

Warzone players noticed a distracting red glow covering the edges of their screen during Season 3 Reloaded matches. Activision confirmed the effect triggered when the Berserker perk activated and disabled it on May 8. The perk still works normally with all combat bonuses active, but the red border no longer appears on your screen.

The visual effect caused confusion because nothing in the perk description mentioned a screen overlay. Players assumed it was a bug or unintended interaction with other perks or field upgrades. Some reported the red glow blocking sightlines during close-range fights or making it harder to track enemies in dark areas of the map.

Berserker activates when you take damage and increases your movement speed and melee damage temporarily. The perk remains useful for aggressive players pushing buildings or finishing downed opponents faster. Removing the visual clutter makes it easier to aim during the buff window without losing the actual gameplay benefits.

Free Run mode disabled grapple exploits where players latched onto opponents

Free Run launched with Season 3 Reloaded as an obstacle course race mode using wall jumps, grappling hooks, and wingsuits across 10 zones. Players discovered you could grapple onto other racers mid-flight to steal their momentum and boost your own speed. Activision disabled contestant-to-contestant grappling on May 8 to stop the exploit.

The grapple mechanic still works on all environmental objects and anchor points. You just cannot target other players anymore. This levels the playing field for players running optimal routes without getting griefed by opponents who latch on during final zones. Free Run leaderboards went offline temporarily for maintenance after the fix deployed.

Players grinding Free Run leaderboards should relearn routes without factoring in opponent grapples. Some shortcuts relied on grappling a faster player to skip difficult wall-jump sequences. Those paths are slower now, so clean execution of intended routes matters more than positioning near other racers.

Legacy weapon camos from MW2, MW3, and BO6 are bugged in Warzone

Warzone players trying to equip camos on weapons from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, or Black Ops 6 are hitting a bug that prevents certain camos from attaching to guns. The issue appears on the Warzone Trello board as “under investigation,” meaning Activision confirmed it but has not scheduled a fix yet.

If you grinded Orion, Interstellar, Bioluminescent, or other legacy mastery camos, you might not be able to show them off in Warzone right now. The bug does not affect all camos or all legacy guns, but reports mention mastery-tier camos failing to equip more often than basic unlocks. Base camos from those games seem to work fine in most cases.

Black Ops 7 native camos and Warzone-exclusive camos are not affected. Players can still equip Season 3 event camos, Battle Pass camos, and store bundle camos without issues. The bug only hits weapons and camos originally from MW2, MW3, or BO6 being used in the current Warzone build.

Heatwave Havoc mode rewards team support actions with combat buffs

Heatwave Havoc entered the multiplayer rotation as a limited-time mode mixing Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hardpoint. The mode tracks non-lethal team support actions like revealing enemies, scrambling radars, buffing teammates, and capturing objectives. You climb through five Heat Levels by helping your team, and each level grants stronger combat bonuses.

Heat Level bonuses:

  • Low Heat: Faster Field Upgrade recharge

  • Medium Heat: Faster movement, sprint-to-fire speed, mid-air mobility

  • Hot: Faster reloads, ADS speed, weapon swap speed

  • Extra Hot: Equipment refills after eliminations

  • Extra Extra Hot: Increased headshot damage and score

The mode rewards objective players and support-focused builds more than pure slayers. You can reach max Heat Level without getting kills by focusing on UAVs, Counter-UAVs, captures, and assists. Once you hit Extra Extra Hot, your combat stats match or beat standard loadouts, so support players become fragging threats in the second half of matches.

Players running Trophy Systems, Smoke Grenades, or other team utility get Heat stacks faster. Engineer perk users who destroy enemy equipment also build Heat quickly. The mode inverts the usual Call of Duty priority where kills matter most, making it better for players who enjoy objective modes but get frustrated losing gunfights to meta weapon users.

Zombies Wildfire augment and Barista Brawl bugs getting fixes soon

The Black Ops 7 Trello board lists two Zombies bugs under active investigation. Wildfire field upgrade augments reset after closing the game, forcing players to re-equip them before every session. A fix is scheduled but not deployed yet. Players using Wildfire should check their loadout before readying up to make sure augments stayed equipped.

The Barista Brawl augment for Melee Macchiato does not work correctly in Cursed mode. The bug is niche since it only affects one augment on one perk in one mode variation, but Activision confirmed they are looking into it. Players running melee builds in Cursed can swap to different augments until the patch drops.

Both bugs are minor compared to game-breaking issues, but they affect loadout consistency for players who optimized builds around those specific augments. Zombies players grinding high-round Cursed runs or Wildfire speedrun strats should plan around the bugs resetting between sessions.
