Fox Hunt, Secret Theater, and More in Metal Gear Solid Delta

The return of Metal Gear Solid marks a monumental moment for stealth-action fans. With the arrival of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami revisits a Cold War-era masterpiece. The result is a faithful and technically upgraded reimagining of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, remade with Unreal Engine 5 and packed with features that serve both longtime fans and newcomers.

Delta’s Story and Characters: A Classic Rebuilt

Set in 1964, Metal Gear Solid Delta explores an alternate take on the geopolitical tension between the United States and the Soviet Union. This entry serves as the origin story for the franchise, focusing on Naked Snake—later known as Big Boss. Dispatched to the Soviet jungle, Snake must extract scientist Nikolai Sokolov and neutralize a new nuclear threat: the Shagohod.

Delta’s antagonist cast includes GRU Colonel Volgin (codenamed Thunderbolt), the sadistic lightning-wielding commander. Alongside him stands a young Ocelot and the Cobra Unit, with members like The Pain, The Fear, The End, The Sorrow, and The Fury. All serve under The Boss, Snake’s former mentor and eventual enemy. These foes offer emotionally themed battles that define the game’s intensity.

Survival and Jungle Warfare Mechanics

The jungle becomes Snake’s greatest ally—and threat. Delta emphasizes survival elements, requiring players to heal wounds, hunt wildlife, and use camouflage to remain undetected. Stealth involves adapting to terrain, blending into the environment, and understanding enemy patrols. These elements differentiate Delta from other Metal Gear titles by grounding the gameplay in tactical realism.

The Secret Theater Mode also makes a return, allowing players to unlock comedic cutscene outtakes by collecting hidden 8mm film reels. Konami confirmed that original PS2-era joke cutscenes would be retained as-is, while new content will use Delta’s updated visuals.

Fox Hunt Multiplayer, Cutscene Enhancements, and Photo Mode

Delta introduces Fox Hunt, a brand-new online hide-and-seek multiplayer mode. Distinct from Metal Gear Online, this mode pits two teams against each other using stealth, evasion, and terrain knowledge to outwit opponents.

Cutscenes now feature seamless transitions from gameplay and can be paused at any time—a long-requested quality-of-life update. A new photo mode joins the package, offering adjustable camera settings, focal points, filters, and frames to capture and share cinematic moments from Snake’s mission.

PS5 Pro Enhancements, PC Specs, and Visual Settings

Metal Gear Solid Delta supports two graphics modes: Quality Mode (4K at 30 fps) and Performance Mode (60 fps at 1080p with dynamic scaling). On PS5 Pro, Konami confirmed that PSSR technology enhances jungle density and delivers smoother performance.

PC players should expect steep hardware demands. Minimum requirements include an Intel i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 2060 Super, 8 GB VRAM, and 16 GB RAM. Recommended specs jump to an RTX 3080 with 100 GB of storage space needed.

Camouflage Bonuses and Classic Throwbacks

Players can select their favorite Metal Gear title when starting a new game to unlock special camo bonuses. Choosing Peace Walker or The Phantom Pain yields custom camouflage options like banana patterns or DPM. Newcomers can opt for a beginner-friendly loadout.

Platform-exclusive mini-games also return. PlayStation and PC players receive Snake vs. Monkey, a callback to the Ape Escape crossover. Xbox players will instead enjoy Snake vs. Bomberman, a Konami-crafted experience designed to match the tone and spirit of Delta.

Sneaking DLC Pack and Cosmetic Customization

Konami’s digital and tactical deluxe editions include the Sneaking DLC Pack, featuring cosmetic unlocks like the GA-KO mask, kerotan mask, glasses, and six distinct uniforms. The Crocodile Suit even camouflages Snake among swamp predators, replacing the original’s crocodile hat with a full-body disguise.
