Fortnite x Mortal Kombat: Everything Dropping April 1

Fortnite’s latest crossover brings the world of Mortal Kombat into the game starting Tuesday, April 1. Epic Games released both a trailer and a blog post outlining the key features of the update. However, as is often the case, expect more content than what was initially revealed.

Three new landmarks will appear on the map: The Pit, The Living Forest, and the Deadpool Landmark. These won’t be full POIs (Points of Interest) but will still offer unique experiences. Landmarks in Fortnite are typically smaller locations that don’t appear on the in-game map by name but show their names when entered. Some landmarks provide strong loot opportunities—Lovely Lane near Whiffy Wharf, for example—while others, like Dashy Dash, are single buildings with limited value. Expect the new Mortal Kombat-themed landmarks to range in size but mostly serve as smaller nods to the franchise.

Scorpion Boss, Mythic Combat Kit, and First Blood Medallion

At one of these Mortal Kombat landmarks, a new Scorpion boss will spawn. Similar to how Fletcher Kane’s location rotates from match to match, Scorpion will also vary in position. Players will be able to spot his location from the Battle Bus. Upon defeating him, players will receive a Mythic combat kit and the First Blood Medallion.

The Scorpion combat kit seems to blend elements from the Hades Chain and Firebending items. Expect a melee weapon that allows players to pull enemies toward them, echoing Scorpion’s iconic “Get over here!” line. This kit likely deals fire-based melee damage similar to the Firebending ability from Chapter 5 Season 2.

Scorpion’s medallion enhances the first shot from any weapon’s magazine, making it explosive on impact. This boost will benefit high-damage, single-shot weapons like the Sentinel Pump, Mammoth Pistol, and Heavy Impact Sniper. These weapons already hit hard, and this medallion could make them even more lethal. The Sentinel Pump allows players to reload one shell at a time, making it easy to keep that first explosive shot ready. The Mammoth Pistol benefits as well, since its regular version fires one shot per reload, ensuring every trigger pull utilizes the medallion’s effect.

For automatic weapons like ARs and SMGs, the medallion’s value drops. A single boosted bullet won’t significantly impact weapons that rely on sustained fire. Meanwhile, the Mammoth shotgun version might actually be less effective than its regular counterpart in this case, since the medallion favors hit-scan weapons and the bullets have travel time.

Fortnite x Mortal Kombat: Regular Combat Kit and Competitive Restrictions

Players will also find regular versions of the Scorpion combat kit in chests. While the exact differences remain unclear, the Mythic version will likely offer slightly better durability and damage. It’s unlikely to differ dramatically from the regular version, possibly just offering more charges or minor stat boosts.

Importantly, the Scorpion boss, his medallion, and his combat kit will not appear in competitive modes. However, the new Mortal Kombat landmarks will be present in tournaments. Players can also expect related quests that grant bonus XP for interacting with Mortal Kombat content, offering a helpful way to level up the battle pass.

Rumored Mortal Kombat LTM and Exclusive Features

Although not officially confirmed by Epic’s blog post, leaks suggest a limited-time Mortal Kombat mode (LTM) may arrive with the update. This LTM would replace the current Getaway mode, which ends on April 1. The rumored LTM would likely feature only Mortal Kombat items as weapons—primarily the Scorpion and Subzero combat kits.

The LTM would introduce three Boons, with two already known: Icy Feet, which gives players the icy slide effect, and Zero Chance, which grants a dash after breaking enemy shields. These will remain exclusive to the LTM. Additionally, unvaulted items like the Void Mask, Chiller Grenades, Ice Creams, and Grapplers may appear, though elimination options will mainly involve Mortal Kombat items.

While a melee-only LTM may not appeal to all players, it provides a focused environment for completing Mortal Kombat quests. It also offers a different gameplay pace compared to standard modes. This approach contrasts with the Avatar crossover, which didn’t receive a dedicated LTM despite having several element-themed weapons. This time around, fans of Mortal Kombat can look forward to a tailored experience.
