Fortnite’s newest hotfix update completely changes Season 4 by vaulting the Jetpack. Earlier this afternoon, Fortnite removed the War Machine Hover Jets, or Jetpack, from the loot pool entirely. The Sheery Claws, recently vaulted for the Fortnitemares update, are back, but the Jetpack is gone. For those playing frequently during Season 4, this represents an incredibly significant change. The Jetpack was considered one of the best mobility items in the game since its addition, enabling various playstyles.
Update on Mobility and Playstyle
The removal of the Jetpack significantly changes the dynamics of gameplay. Items like Iron Man gloves and auto turrets became more effective due to the Jetpack, allowing players to move around quickly while staying difficult to hit. Players using the Captain America shield also benefited from this mobility. Despite numerous nerfs, the Jetpack remained a central part of the meta, and vaulting it appears to be a positive change. It was fun to use, but it also enabled playstyles that frustrated many, particularly when combined with the Iron Man gloves.
Alternative Mobility Items Still Available
While the Jetpack is gone, several mobility items remain in the game. The Iron Man boots, Witch’s Broom, Shockwave Grenades, Chainsaw, and the Sheery Claws, recently unvaulted, provide plenty of alternatives. These items will likely become more valuable as the Jetpack’s removal changes the meta. With the absence of the Jetpack, it’s expected that the Shockwaves and Sheery Claws will become go-to mobility items for many players. Even if Shockwaves are unavailable, combining the Sheery Claws and Witch’s Broom offers a solid mobility setup.
Meta Shift Incoming?
The update introduces a significant shift in the mobility meta, making other items like the Chainsaw and Witch’s Broom more relevant. With the Jetpack vaulted, these mobility items are no longer overshadowed. The change alters playstyles, forcing players to adapt to a new gameplay experience without the Jetpack. Fights without the Jetpack require players to relearn how to use other mobility items and adjust strategies.
Iron Man Gloves and Auto Turret Without Jetpack
The removal of the Jetpack also impacts the effectiveness of other items, particularly the Iron Man gloves. The combination of Iron Man gloves, auto turrets, and the Jetpack allowed players to become a flying threat, chipping away at opponents from above. Without the Jetpack, players using the Iron Man gloves will be less of a problem, as grounded fights make it easier to deal with their limited damage output. Even though the Iron Man gloves can still be used in the air with Flo Berry Shockwaves, the absence of constant flight levels the playing field.
Wood Stake Shotgun and Grounded Fights
Another item to watch is the Wood Stake Shotgun. Previously, the chaotic playstyle enabled by the Jetpack didn’t allow this weapon to thrive. Now, with the Jetpack removed and fights becoming more grounded, the Wood Stake Shotgun may become a more viable option. Even though it may not become the preferred shotgun, the more controlled environment could give this weapon new life.\
The final three weeks of Season 4 will see a significant shake-up in gameplay, making the vaulting of the Jetpack a refreshing change. The end of the season brings new opportunities for players to explore Fortnitemares items and adjust to the updated meta. For those who miss the Jetpack, the season will conclude soon, and the game will continue to evolve.
