Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 is approaching its conclusion, and an in-game countdown is already ticking toward the Unstable Story Moment. The event takes place on August 15 and appears to revolve around the Zero Point Stabilizer.
Since this is a short event expected to last only a few minutes, arriving late could mean missing it entirely. Here’s when the Fortnite Unstable event starts, when you should join a match, and what Epic Games has revealed about the Story Moment.
When Is the Fortnite Unstable Event?
The Fortnite Unstable Story Moment begins on Saturday, August 15, at 2 PM ET / 6 PM UTC.
Players should enter a match before the official start time. Aim to be ready by approximately 1:55 PM ET / 5:55 PM UTC, giving yourself a few minutes to get into position before the Story Moment begins.
The event is expected to last for roughly three minutes, so there isn’t much room for arriving late.

Players in Asia and Australia should note that the event takes place during the early hours of August 16 because of the time difference.
When Should You Join Fortnite for the Unstable Event?
Don’t wait until 2 PM ET to launch Fortnite.
It’s best to update and log into the game well ahead of time, then enter a match at approximately 1:55 PM ET. This reduces the risk of missing the event because of an update, login queue, matchmaking delay, or other last-minute problem.
Epic’s event schedule also makes 1:55 PM ET particularly important, as that’s when normal player damage is disabled.
The timeline is:
- 1:30 PM ET / 5:30 PM UTC: Damage at the Zero Point Stabilizer is reduced.
- 1:55 PM ET / 5:55 PM UTC: All damage is disabled.
- 2 PM ET / 6 PM UTC: The Unstable Story Moment begins.
- After the event: Damage is enabled again.
That gives players approximately five minutes of completely damage-free preparation before the Story Moment starts.
What Happens During the Fortnite Unstable Event?
Epic Games hasn’t revealed exactly what will happen during Unstable, keeping the major story developments under wraps until the event itself.
However, the information released so far strongly connects the Story Moment to the Zero Point Stabilizer, which is also where players can see the countdown.
Starting at 1:30 PM ET, damage dealt at the Zero Point Stabilizer will be reduced. Players therefore appear to be able to interact with or attack the Stabilizer during the half hour leading up to Unstable.
At 1:55 PM ET, Epic will disable all damage. It will remain disabled throughout the Story Moment, allowing players to watch the event without worrying about being eliminated by someone else.
Normal damage returns once Unstable concludes, so don’t assume the temporary truce continues after the event.
How Long Is the Fortnite Unstable Event?
The Unstable Story Moment is expected to last around three minutes.
That makes it significantly more important to arrive early than for an ordinary Fortnite match. Even a short matchmaking delay could result in missing a large portion of the event.
Have Fortnite fully updated, log in ahead of time, and enter a match by around 1:55 PM ET.
What Happens After the Unstable Story Moment?
The action doesn’t end when the Story Moment finishes.
Immediately afterward, Mythic Sprite Hours will begin. During this period, players will have an increased chance of encountering the Zero Point Sprite and Grim Sprite.
Normal player damage will also return after Unstable ends, so be prepared for matches to immediately become dangerous again.
With Chapter 7 Season 3 nearing its conclusion, Unstable looks set to provide one of its final major story developments. The key time to remember is 2 PM ET / 6 PM UTC on August 15, but joining about five minutes early is the safest way to make sure you see the entire event.
