Fortnite Summer Update: Surf Cube, Unvaulted Items, and Blitz Avatar Changes

The Fortnite Summer update introduced a new mobility item: the Surf Cube. Once activated, it spawns a surfboard that allows players to travel across land faster than walking and even glide through the air by jumping upward. You can boost using the sprint button, although it doesn’t consume standard stamina. While fun and effective for long-distance travel, it does have a durability limit and leaves players exposed.

Unlike single-use mobility items such as the Witch’s Broom or Nimbus Cloud, the Surf Cube functions more like Airbending from the Avatar event. You can cancel midair and should avoid fall damage upon landing—though occasional bugs may cause inconsistencies. This item is available through floor loot, chests, hero crates, and can be purchased in mythic form from the Light Rider NPC at Shiny Shafts. The mythic only boosts durability.

Despite its strengths, players may prefer the Base Boost Gloves or Robin Grappler due to better control and protection. Compared to cars, the Surf Cube offers more flexibility in movement but lacks cover. As a result, it’s not the top mobility option this season, but still stands out in a vacuum.

Daily Item Unvaults for Summer Event

The Summer event follows a familiar structure: one classic item returns each day for two weeks, paired with a daily XP challenge. These items are only available for a 24-hour window before being vaulted again. On day one, the Grapple Glove returned, though its impact feels minimal due to recent availability and current mobility saturation.

Some of the most anticipated items include the Shockwave Hammer and Pump Shotgun, each promising unique gameplay possibilities. Whether you’re chasing nostalgia or just want a short-term shakeup, the day-by-day format keeps the update engaging. Expect a rotating lineup of favorites from past chapters, with each offering XP bonuses.

Blitz Mode Avatar Update (Fortnite Summer Update)

Blitz Mode also received a refresh tied to the Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover. Previously, players spawned with the Kill Switch revolvers and Rocket Ram. Now, each match starts with a random bending ability—everyone in the game gets the same one. Fire, Water, Earth, and Air bending are all in rotation.

This makes every game in Blitz feel distinct. The gold llama spawn rate is slightly reduced from the prior weekend’s bonus event, and players will still begin with medallions. Avatar-themed temple landmarks were added across the Blitz map to reflect the elemental changes. These updates are temporary and will rotate out next week, making way for a new theme.

Squid Game Reload and Skin Release

On Friday, Fortnite will launch a Squid Game Reload map, which will temporarily dominate the Reload rotation. From launch until June 30, this will be the only active map for Reload mode. Afterward, it will replace the Oasis Desert map in regular rotation, joining the Chapter 2 Reload map and the original Reload map.

While some fans may miss the Paradise Palms-themed Oasis map, the Squid Game map adds a collaborative twist to gameplay. Players should expect a full set of Squid Game skins arriving on June 26, tying into the release of the new Reload map. These cosmetics aim to capitalize on the hype around the Netflix series and Fortnite’s continued collab strategy.
