Fortnite’s latest collaboration introduces the Squid Game experience through the Squid Grounds reload map. While official creative maps won’t arrive until August, Epic Games made this the primary reload map for the weekend before rotating it into standard play until October 3. Players start in a bunk bed area with hidden references before being launched into gameplay. Classic challenges from the show like Red Light, Green Light and Glass Bridge are integrated across the map through minigames and loot-filled vaults.
All Square Meals POIs and Llama Rewards
One of the most surprising locations is Square Meals. At the center sits a giant golden llama, which can be unlocked by completing mini-games under each restaurant. Under Fish Sticks is a challenging laser grid, while Tacos hides a slow-falling trap room. Butter Barn and Pizza Pit both host parkour challenges beneath their floorboards. Completing all these activities rewards a random mythic item, boosting player advantages in Reload matches.
Another standout reference includes a recreation of the control room used by the VIPs in the show. Hectic Hedges hides an underground trap base filled with mythic chests, and near this area are plastic stones referencing the Gganbu game from Season 2. Ice King’s under-construction obstacle course suggests more events are in the pipeline.
Fortnite Squid Game Skins and Cosmetics
The Item Shop now includes nearly a dozen Squid Game-themed cosmetics. Players can grab a 12,000 V-Buck bundle with Game Guard outfits, customizable masks, and the lobby pose shaped like the “X” symbol from the voting sequence. Default skins dressed in numbered contestant jumpsuits are available, with selectable tracksuit tags marked with “X” or “O”.
Two original characters debut with the update: Daki Defender, inspired by Gi-hun, and Glassbridge Survivor, based on Player 067. The Game Manager skin also joins the lineup, functioning as a second-in-command figure beneath the Front Man. Other items include a Dalona candy back bling, complete with the umbrella design and cutting needle.
Easter Eggs, Mini-Games, and New Items
The Squid Grounds map is full of nods to Korean childhood games. A hotel hides a second version of the trap tile game, while an ice cream shop includes another obstacle course. A door in Square Meals contains a perfect Dalona room replica, featuring four cookie shapes from the show. Park features like the Cuddle Team Leader climbing frame lean into the playground aesthetic that inspired the original series.
Boogie Bombs return with a 4-stack limit and a reduced 2.5-second dance effect. The Redeye SMG finally sees its official release, tying in thematically with Squid Game guards. Jetpacks are also back, trivializing many mini-game challenges. Keep an eye out for the new Surf Cube mythic as well as its upgraded variant with more charge.
Twitch Drops, Summer Event, and Bonus Modes
Players can earn free Squid Game-themed Twitch Drops including a banner, sprays, and emoticon by watching supported streams. Fortnite’s 14 Days of Summer event is also live, giving out rewards like sprays, cactus back bling, and pickaxes for completing 16 level-ups during the event. Every day, a previously vaulted item appears for just 24 hours. So far, the Grapple Glove, Excalibur, and Shockwave Hammer have returned.
Fast-paced Blitz mode is now extended until August 12 due to player demand. Expect content themed around Jujutsu Kaisen, Dragon Ball, and Mortal Kombat to follow, similar to Avatar and TMNT weeks. The Avatar mythics have been buffed with new shrines added to the map.
Survey skins revealed this week also tease Chapter 7’s direction. One group hints at a Gala-themed launch, while another group suggests a follow-up season with Norse mythology. Meanwhile, Epic recently reduced the number of llamas in Fortnite OG from 30 to 10 after fan backlash.
Finally, Fortnite Season 4 is now confirmed to begin on Thursday, August 7, one day earlier than planned. That change also moves the OG2 schedule, so players will need to adjust accordingly.
