This was never going to be a season-redefining patch. The version number tells you that before you even boot up the game. When only the second digit after the decimal point changes, meaning the jump from v40.40 to v40.41, it almost always signals a lightweight update built to prepare event files and clean up loose ends rather than flip the meta.

That said, Epic did push weapon balance changes alongside the event prep content, and a few of them are worth paying attention to before you play your last matches of Showdown.

Every Weapon Balance Change in v40.41

Epic did not publish a full traditional patch notes page by the time of publication, but Fortnite Status on X confirmed the following changes.

Pulse Pistols got a buff:

The Pulse Pistols now retain more of their damage at range and reload a bit faster. These pistols, added back in v40.40, already had a reputation for being extremely mobile and hard to fight against thanks to their Blink dash and Recall rewind mechanic. The range damage buff is subtle. You are not going to be winning long-range fights with these. But in the quick back-and-forth of a dash fight where you create small amounts of distance, you may notice you are dropping enemies a little faster than before.

Overdrive Pulse Rifle got nerfed again:

The clip size was slightly reduced. This is not the first time Epic has touched this weapon. Earlier in May, Epic cut its fire rate, describing it as firing “a liiitle too fast.” Combined with earlier damage and accuracy nerfs, the magazine reduction means you will need to reload more often during sustained pressure. For Zero Build players, the impact is smaller. For anyone using it to pressure walls in builds mode, losing rounds from the mag does matter.

Community Day gameplay changes confirmed for May 30:

The Finger Guns will return to the loot pool specifically for Community Day on May 30. Players will also be able to stack more pizza slices than normal. These changes are tied to Community Day only and reflect what the community voted on for that day’s gameplay experience.

What Community Day Actually Is and Why You Should Log In Saturday

Community Day is a first-of-its-kind Fortnite event running from May 30 at 9 AM ET through May 31 at 9 AM ET. Logging in during that window gets you access to free rewards including the Community Brella umbrella skin, bonus XP, Twitch Drops, and other unlockables.

The gameplay itself will be different for that 24-hour period. Finger Guns are back in the loot pool, pizza stacking gets a boost, and Epic has hinted at additional unannounced gameplay bonuses and a “power hour” window where rewards stack even harder. If you have been grinding battle pass XP or just want free cosmetics before the season ends, Saturday is a free opportunity you do not want to miss.

The Shattered Live Event: What We Know for June 5

The Shattered event is the season-ending live event for Chapter 7 Season 2. Doors open at 6:20 PM Eastern on June 5, and the event itself begins at 7:00 PM Eastern. This is the moment the Team Foundation and Team Ice King Rivalry storyline that has driven the Showdown season reaches its conclusion.

Chapter 7 Season 2 launched on March 19, 2026, making Showdown one of the shorter Fortnite seasons on record at roughly 11 weeks. With the Shattered event being the final chapter, v40.41 is essentially the last gameplay state you will play in before Season 3 begins.

What Has Not Changed and Why the Meta Stays the Same

The v40.41 patch is not turning the Season 2 meta upside down. The Pulse Pistols were already considered by many players to be the strongest item in the loot pool for outplaying opponents at close range, and a slightly faster reload does not change that assessment at a fundamental level.

The Overdrive Pulse Rifle, even after multiple nerfs, still dishes out fast damage up close and gives a movement benefit when you fire it. Losing a few rounds from the magazine hurts sustained pressure but does not make it a weapon you should stop picking up.

If you were already comfortable with your loadout heading into the final week of Showdown, you do not need to rebuild your whole approach. The changes are refinements, not a reset.

How to Play the Final Week of Showdown

With one week left in the season, here is what actually matters depending on how you play:

Zero Build players: The Pulse Pistols buff is the change most likely to affect your games. If someone is running Pulse Pistols well, expect them to feel slightly stickier at mid range after a dash. Adjust your spacing accordingly and try not to let them dictate distance.

Builds mode players: The Overdrive Pulse Rifle magazine nerf is more noticeable for you. If you relied on the rifle to spray walls on approach, you will need to think about when you start a clip more carefully. The Overdrive Grenade still exists to close gaps while you reload.

Casual players and collectors: Log in on Community Day on Saturday, May 30. Free rewards, bonus XP, and unique gameplay changes make it the best single day to play in the final stretch of Chapter 7 Season 2.

Everyone: Clear your schedule for Friday, June 5. The Shattered live event starts at 7:00 PM ET, doors open at 6:20 PM ET, and this is a one-time-only in-game experience.
