Fortnite Blitz Mode and Hero Update: New Items, Bunkers, and Game Modes

Epic’s newest Fortnite Blitz mode update brings two hero abilities, revamped bunker access, and a fast-paced Battle Royale mode. Here’s a full breakdown of the changes now live in Chapter 6.

New Hero Abilities: Beast Transformation and Mist Form

The Pon Pawns act as this season’s featured melee-style hero item. When activated, they turn the player into a beast with unlimited stamina, a higher jump, a melee attack, and a dive strike. The dive causes area damage, and while early impressions labeled it overpowered, the transformation weakens as the player takes damage. Players can exit beast form manually or return automatically when the item breaks after too much damage.

This version feels more limited than previous melee options like the Typhoon Blade or Kneecapper Bat. Its effectiveness depends heavily on the user’s health and timing. Encounters with a low-health beast feel manageable, while fighting one at full health remains more difficult. Still, with the current abundance of mobility tools, it’s easier to escape or counter than past melee items.

The second addition, Mist Form, temporarily turns the player into a bat and grants brief invincibility while flying. It includes a cooldown and a ten-use limit. Players expected this to become a frustrating panic item, but it didn’t provide as much escape range as feared. Using Base Boost Gloves allowed for easy chases, and players in Mist Form usually couldn’t escape for long.

Mist Form also pairs with Mist Gloves to create the Ascendant Mist variant, which boosts glove damage to 18 but still prevents attacking during invincibility. This upgraded version uses two inventory slots and doesn’t allow for invincible damage output, making it a situational choice rather than an automatic pickup.

Mythic Base Boost Gloves and Loot Pool Adjustments

Mythic Base Boost Gloves are now part of the general loot pool, no longer requiring a gold purchase from the Supernova Academy’s A room. These gloves offer four charges, up from two (blue) and three (purple), improving mobility, escape, and combat flexibility.

However, these gloves now share loot tiers with Mist Form, so A-tier and S-tier crates no longer guarantee glove drops. Players previously relied on consistent glove spawns, so this adds more randomness to loadout planning.

One functional change involves shield bubbles. Base Boost Gloves no longer knock players through these shields. This change removes an unintended advantage. Another adjustment affects Robin’s Bat Grappler. Purchasing it grants 40 uses, while eliminating an enemy carrying it results in a 20-use drop. This difference could be a bug, but it’s live for now.

Bunker Rework and Rift Mechanics

Newly opened bunkers around the island now offer a different layout from Chapter 5. Instead of attachment-focused benches, they contain hero crates, purchase stations, and tier-locked loot rooms. Inside these locked areas, players can find A-tier and S-tier crates along with purchasable wall items.

These bunkers also feature infinite-use rifts, allowing easy exits. The return of the scanner item helps detect campers, improving bunker safety. The previous back-and-forth gameplay tied to bunkers now feels less necessary. Players can enter for bonus loot but aren’t forced to visit them for attachments or upgrades. It’s a situational choice, not a requirement.

Blitz Royale and Training Mode Details

Blitz Royale introduces a 32-player mini Battle Royale experience. It takes place on a smaller Reload map section with just three POIs. Matches last about five minutes and include a mix of real players and AI. Every player spawns with a random medallion and earns boons and higher-tier weapons by securing eliminations.

Blitz Royale’s short match time appeals to those with tight schedules. While the format may seem geared toward mobile users, anyone on any platform can play. Crown wins count in this mode, which drew mixed responses. However, players have used bot lobbies and Reload to farm crowns for a long time, so this mode doesn’t drastically change that reality.

The second mode replaces Team Rumble and offers a training-style deathmatch in Utopia City. This zero-build mode includes bots and players, giving casual users a space to warm up or test items. Though similar tools have long existed in Creative, this addition offers an official option without needing custom lobbies.
