Square Enix has finally put a date on the conclusion of its Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch worldwide on April 8, 2027, simultaneously across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC. Square Enix confirmed the date during PlayStation’s September 3 State of Play, alongside extensive new gameplay, multiple editions and plans for two post-launch story expansions.

The finale will also significantly expand Rebirth’s open-world structure, introducing free exploration aboard the Highwind, Chocobo combat, a new class-like FITS system and quests that can change depending on which party member players choose.

Revelation Will End the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy
Square Enix officially describes Revelation as the final entry in the remake project that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024.
The new game will tackle the final stage of Cloud and his companions’ confrontation with Sephiroth while the threat of Meteor hangs over the planet and the massive Weapons begin to awaken.
Square Enix is also emphasizing scale.
The company describes Revelation as the largest adventure in the trilogy, with the Highwind airship allowing players to travel across the planet and explore its open world on a much broader scale than in Rebirth.
| Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy | Release |
|---|---|
| Final Fantasy VII Remake | 2020 |
| Final Fantasy VII Rebirth | 2024 |
| Final Fantasy VII Revelation | April 8, 2027 |
Unlike the previous two entries at their original launches, Revelation is also arriving across the major current platforms on day one rather than debuting as a PlayStation exclusive.
The Highwind Changes How Players Explore the World

One of the biggest additions is exactly what longtime Final Fantasy VII players have been waiting for: the Highwind.
Square Enix says the iconic airship will let players take to the skies and travel across Revelation’s significantly expanded world.
That’s not the only traversal change.
Piko, the party’s Chocobo companion, returns but is no longer limited to transportation. Piko can now fight alongside the party and will develop additional abilities that assist both exploration and combat.
Square Enix also revealed a grappling gun that can be used to reach rooftops and navigate urban areas more quickly.
Taken together, these systems suggest Revelation is pushing further away from Remake’s relatively linear structure and building directly on the much broader world introduced in Rebirth.
The New FITS System Adds Four Combat Roles
Combat is also getting a major new mechanic called Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, or FITS.
FITS gives characters specialized outfits that change both their appearance and their combat role.
Four FITS have been confirmed:
| FITS | Focus |
|---|---|
| Warrior | Offensive combat |
| Knight | Defense |
| Black Mage | Magic |
| Summoner | Summon-based abilities |
The system isn’t simply cosmetic. Square Enix says each outfit provides unique move sets and changes how a party member functions in battle.
The State of Play footage included Cid using the Knight FITS and Vincent using the Summoner FITS, demonstrating that the system can substantially alter established character roles.
Players will also be able to switch between characters dynamically while exploring rather than remaining permanently tied to Cloud.
Party Choice Can Change Certain Quests
One of the more interesting additions has nothing to do with raw combat power.
Certain quests can be assigned to different party members, and Square Enix says that decision can change specific story events and gameplay scenarios.
That’s an important distinction from simply selecting three combat characters.
If implemented extensively, it could give side content more replay value and allow characters who traditionally received less screen time to take a larger role depending on player choice.
Square Enix has not said exactly how many quests use the system, so claims that the entire campaign dynamically changes based on party leader choice would be premature.
Queen’s Blood Is Coming Back
Rebirth’s popular Queen’s Blood card game is also returning.
This time, it gets a substantial new storyline centered around Red XIII, along with new opponents and mechanics designed to challenge experienced players.
Given how much attention Queen’s Blood received in Rebirth, its return is hardly surprising, but giving it another dedicated narrative suggests Square Enix sees it as more than a one-game minigame.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Digital Editions and Prices
Square Enix is offering four main digital editions in the U.S.
| Digital Edition | Price | Key Content |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $69.99 | Base game |
| Trilogy Edition | $84.99 | Remake Intergrade, Rebirth, Revelation |
| Premium | $99.99 | Game, Story Expansion Pass, 24-hour early access |
| Premium Plus | $109.99 | Premium content plus digital art book, soundtrack and extra in-game items |
The Trilogy Edition is particularly aggressive pricing.
For $84.99, new players receive Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Square Enix says the first two games become playable immediately after preorder.
Premium and Premium Plus buyers can begin playing Revelation on April 7 at 12:00 a.m., 24 hours ahead of the standard launch.
Two Story DLCs Are Already Confirmed
Square Enix is planning two substantial story expansions after launch.
The Story Expansion Pass contains:
- Story DLC 1: Sephiroth
- Story DLC 2: Vincent & the Turks
The names alone make the direction fairly clear, but Square Enix has not yet disclosed the actual plot of either expansion.
More importantly, the release timing is broader than some reports suggest.
Square Enix officially says both DLCs are planned for release sometime between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028. The company has not announced an exact month for either expansion.
They will also eventually be purchasable individually, while the complete Story Expansion Pass can be bought separately after Revelation launches.
The $349.99 Collector’s Edition Includes Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth
For players looking for something considerably more expensive, Square Enix has also revealed a physical Collector’s Edition.
Priced at $349.99 in the U.S., its centerpiece is a display statue featuring Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth together.
The package includes:
- Base game
- Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth statue
- SteelBook case
- Physical soundtrack
- Art book
- Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy Final Showdown promo card
- Story Expansion Pass
- Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia
- Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia
- Nymphwing Bracelet
- Risk Taker’s Choker
- Reclaimant Choker and Survival Set
Square Enix says the Collector’s Edition will be available in limited quantities through its own store.
Physical Standard and Deluxe Editions are also planned, with the U.S. versions priced at $69.99 and $99.99, respectively.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Is No Longer Just a PlayStation Event
Perhaps the biggest strategic change is easy to overlook amid all the gameplay announcements.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches simultaneously across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
Square Enix’s official Japanese site specifically lists PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and the Epic Games Store for April 8.
That makes the trilogy finale a very different release from Remake and Rebirth, both of which spent significant periods tied to PlayStation platforms.
Seven years after Final Fantasy VII Remake began Square Enix’s enormous reimagining of the 1997 classic, the publisher now has an exact date for the end.
April 8, 2027 is when the unknown journey finally reaches its destination.
