Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Reveals Massive Weapon Boss Fights

Square Enix has released a new Final Fantasy 7 Revelation trailer, and some of the biggest enemies from the original RPG are taking center stage. The footage provides a new look at the enormous Weapons that Cloud and his companions will have to confront during the final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation concludes the story that began with Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. While the trilogy broadly retells the events of the 1997 classic, Square Enix has made enough major changes that even longtime fans can’t be certain exactly how the finale will unfold.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Shows Off the Weapons

The latest trailer begins with Rufus Shinra discussing the approaching Meteor and the growing threat posed by the Weapons.

These enormous creatures serve as guardians of the planet. Unfortunately for humanity, the planet now considers humans part of the threat, putting Cloud and practically everyone else directly in their path.

Three particularly recognizable Weapons appear in the new footage:

  • Ruby Weapon
  • Emerald Weapon
  • Ultima Weapon

All three have received substantial visual overhauls for Revelation. The new designs retain their recognizable characteristics while emphasizing their enormous size and making them considerably more intimidating than their 1997 counterparts.

The footage strongly suggests that battles against the Weapons will be among the largest encounters in the entire remake trilogy.

The Highwind Returns in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

The Weapons aren’t the only familiar sight in the trailer. Square Enix also provides another look at the Highwind, the iconic airship from the original Final Fantasy 7.

Its introduction becomes particularly important during this portion of the story, as the stakes expand beyond individual locations and encompass the entire planet.

The original game gave players considerably greater freedom to travel once the Highwind became available. Exactly how Revelation will translate that freedom into the remake trilogy’s modern structure remains one of the biggest gameplay questions surrounding the final installment.

Revelation Picks Up After Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth concluded at one of the most important moments in the original story, while also introducing several twists that complicated what longtime players thought they knew about its events.

Revelation now has to bring those threads together.

Meteor threatens the entire planet, the Weapons have awakened, and Sephiroth’s plans are approaching their conclusion. Cloud and the remaining party members will consequently face threats on a scale considerably larger than those encountered throughout Remake and Rebirth.

Players familiar with the 1997 game may know the broad direction of the story, but the remake trilogy’s changes surrounding characters such as Aerith and Zack leave plenty of uncertainty about what happens next.

Fans Praise the Redesigned Weapons

Initial reaction to the trailer has been largely positive, with the redesigned Weapons attracting particular attention.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth already substantially modernized enemies, locations, and characters that were originally represented with comparatively simple PlayStation-era models. Revelation appears to be taking the same approach with some of the original game’s most imposing creatures.

Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapon now look appropriately enormous for the remake trilogy’s cinematic presentation, potentially turning encounters that were already memorable in 1997 into elaborate modern boss battles.

Some fans had hoped the trailer would provide additional information about Aerith or Zack, but Square Enix appears to be keeping those parts of Revelation’s story under wraps for now.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Launches in Spring 2027

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is currently scheduled to release in spring 2027, although Square Enix has not announced an exact launch date.

Unlike the previous two installments, the third game won’t begin as a timed PlayStation exclusive. Square Enix plans to release Revelation simultaneously across its supported platforms, meaning players outside the PlayStation ecosystem won’t have to wait for a later port.

With the launch window now less than a year away, Square Enix appears to be ramping up its marketing campaign. More trailers and gameplay details are likely to arrive as Revelation moves closer to release.

The biggest mystery remains its ending. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has expressed considerable confidence in how the trilogy will conclude, while the changes introduced throughout Remake and Rebirth mean Square Enix isn’t simply recreating an ending fans have known for nearly three decades.

For now, the latest trailer makes one thing clear: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is dramatically increasing the scale for its finale, and its battles against the planet’s Weapons look set to play a major role.
