Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Spring 2027 Release Window Is Perfectly Timed

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027, giving Square Enix a fitting opportunity to conclude its remake trilogy during one of the franchise’s biggest milestones. While the publisher could continue supporting the game with post-launch content, Revelation is expected to serve as the final chapter in the remake project that began with Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020.

The timing is particularly significant because 2027 marks the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy 7, making Revelation’s release window feel like a natural celebration of one of the most influential RPGs ever made.

A Finale During Final Fantasy 7’s 30th Anniversary

Square Enix has only confirmed a Spring 2027 release window, leaving the exact launch date unknown. Even so, the announcement places the game squarely within the franchise’s anniversary year.

The original Final Fantasy 7 debuted in different regions throughout 1997:

Region Original Release Date
Japan January 31, 1997
North America September 7, 1997
PAL Regions November 17, 1997

Rather than tying the remake’s conclusion to one specific anniversary date, a Spring release allows Square Enix to make 2027 itself a celebration of Final Fantasy 7. The company has already referred to 2027 as the “30th anniversary year” of the original game, reinforcing that broader approach.

A Trilogy That Introduced FF7 to a New Generation

When Final Fantasy 7 launched in 1997, it helped redefine cinematic storytelling in video games. Its memorable cast, ambitious narrative, and presentation established it as one of the most influential RPGs ever released, with an impact comparable to other landmark titles of its era.

The remake trilogy has revisited that classic while expanding its story for modern audiences. At the same time, it has introduced Cloud, Sephiroth, and Midgar to players who never experienced the original PlayStation release.

Whether longtime fans embrace every creative change or not, the trilogy has consistently positioned itself as a companion to the original game rather than a replacement. Ending that journey during the franchise’s 30th anniversary gives the project an appropriately symbolic conclusion.

When Could Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Release?

Spring 2027 officially spans March 20 through June 21, leaving several possible launch windows for Square Enix.

Competition during the first half of 2027 is already beginning to take shape. Titles including Stranger Than Heaven, Fable, and Persona 4 Revival are expected to launch before or around the start of spring, while games such as Exodus, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and Spyro: A Realm Beyond are also targeting the season.

With Final Fantasy 7 Revelation expected to be one of the year’s biggest RPG releases, publishers may choose to avoid launching too close to it once Square Enix announces a firm release date.

Previous Releases May Offer a Hint

The earlier entries in the remake trilogy launched on the following dates:

Game Release Date
Final Fantasy 7 Remake April 10, 2020
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth February 29, 2024
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Spring 2027

An April launch would mirror the release timing of Final Fantasy 7 Remake while placing Revelation near the middle of the Spring release window. Although Square Enix has not indicated whether that is the plan, it would allow the game to remain a major part of the franchise’s anniversary celebrations throughout the year.

For now, fans will have to wait for a specific release date. Regardless of when it arrives within Spring 2027, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is positioned to conclude one of Square Enix’s most ambitious projects at a time that celebrates the lasting legacy of the original game.
