Fantasy Life i version 1.3.1 is out now on Steam, Xbox, PS4, and PS5. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch players are still stuck on version 1.3.0 for now, missing out on major features like farming fixes and camera improvements. These features are expected to arrive soon, but for now, console and PC users have access to the full suite of changes.
Farming Fixes and New Controls
The biggest upgrade in this patch is to farming. Previously, players had to plant and water each field tile individually—up to 72 button presses just to plant a full set. Version 1.3.1 introduces sweeping changes: a single button now covers all tiles, and watering and seeding are mapped to separate buttons. It’s now possible to plant and water full plots in seconds, completely changing the farming life for the better.
Players also no longer have to manually sheath weapons during harvesting; this now happens automatically while dashing. While not game-changing, it does smooth out farming transitions. Unfortunately, none of these changes are yet available for Switch users.
Camera Tweaks and Targeting Improvements (Fantasy Life i 1.3.1 Update)
The auto-select targeting feature now automatically locks onto nearby enemies when drawing your weapon. This makes battles more responsive, especially for beginners. However, many players may prefer to keep it off to allow for manual aim control.
Camera changes are modest but welcome. Players on console now have better zoom control, though dungeon views are still somewhat limited. The full camera mod seen in the Steam version remains unmatched, but this is a clear step up from launch. Depth of field options have also been added for console players, previously exclusive to Steam.
Life Song Playback, Key Rebinding, and Flying Changes
Players can now replay the life songs for any mastered class by visiting the appropriate Life Master. While it would be more intuitive to access these songs from the capital like in the 3DS game, the option to relisten at all is new and appreciated.
Gamepad keybinding customization has been expanded, and the flying system has been improved—players can now teleport while jumping or swimming, which wasn’t possible before. These quality-of-life changes help streamline progression and traversal.
Graphical Enhancements and Mount Zones Fixed
Lighting and render distance have been improved across all versions except Switch. Visual elements like distant terrain and reflective lighting now appear more natural. Also, a bug that previously prevented players from using mounts in large beach areas on the Tropical Isles has been fixed. Mount access now begins earlier, making movement through these zones much less restrictive.
Bug Fixes and Treasure Chest Fixes (Fantasy Life i 1.3.1 Update)
Version 1.3.1 fixes several long-standing bugs:
-
Treasure Grove dungeons now generate correctly.
-
Chests that appeared open prematurely are fixed.
-
Guild quests now register as completed correctly, even if requirements are met before older quests are claimed.
-
Status effects from skills no longer impact the player.
-
Tropical Isles’ no-mount zones are reduced.
-
Meals now correctly reduce crafting/gathering turns.
-
Missing quest items in Chapter 3 can now be re-purchased.
One particularly satisfying fix involves the treasure chest in the Lap Forest, which now provides the bowl of assorted fruit recipe, previously unobtainable.
Unicorn Mount and Cross-Save Compatibility
The unicorn mount—originally a regional bonus for Hong Kong players—is now available more broadly. Steam and console players can claim it via bonus content, but Switch users can’t redeem it yet. With cross-save, however, there may be a workaround for using it on Switch once it’s unlocked on another platform.
The mount is fully functional and adds to the growing collection of rideable creatures, even if its design is divisive. Some players may find it charming, while others might consider it a bit too flashy.
