EVO 2025 Day 1 Recap: Sagat, VF5 R.E.V.O., MK Trilogy, and More

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage Gets Full Crossplay and Quest Mode (EVO 2025)

Virtua Fighter 5 continues its evolution with the new R.E.V.O. World Stage. This updated release brings full crossplay across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2, connecting all players regardless of platform.

A major highlight is the return of the Quest Mode, now rebranded as World Stage Mode. Based on the classic Virtua Fighter 4 single-player experience, players will face realistic AI opponents in an arcade-style journey. It offers strong solo play, similar to Tekken 8’s story mode, but rooted in VF’s legacy.

Other key additions:

  • Rollback netcode is now standard on consoles.

  • PS4 Ultimate Showdown players get a discounted upgrade.

  • PC R.E.V.O. owners receive the new update for free.

  • Training mode enhancements now cover character-specific strategies, including counters for Taka-Arashi.

  • Dural, the boss character, becomes playable (excluding ranked and pro tour events).

A console beta test starts in September, and the Steam version is currently on sale.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy Joins Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection

The Legacy Kollection added a fan-favorite: Mortal Kombat Trilogy. This version removes infamous issues like Shang Tsung’s transformation load times—now instant without freezing gameplay—while retaining the over-the-top, unbalanced gameplay.

Key updates:

  • Maintains the chaotic original design.

  • Fixes loading delays and other “unfun” elements.

  • Physical copies are confirmed.

  • Additional titles are coming post-Trilogy.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and Invincible VS Updates

No new gameplay details were revealed during the Tōkon panel, but gameplay footage is live. The game uses traditional quarter circles, dragon punches, and half-circle inputs, satisfying competitive veterans.

Invincible VS, a tag-based fighter, responded to feedback by adding classical motion inputs alongside its easy mode. Players can now switch between modern and traditional styles.

It also includes a “content creator mode” that removes gore locally (ideal for avoiding YouTube demonetization). This change doesn’t affect online opponents and was a much-requested feature.

Sagat Shines in Street Fighter 6 Season 3

Capcom showcased Sagat at EVO, although footage was restricted. Based on early impressions, Sagat is a powerful zoning-focused character with a strong neutral game.

Highlights:

  • Fast drive rush for his size.

  • Crouch heavy punch is long-ranged and special-cancelable.

  • Step kick is a true low and offers combos on counter.

  • Tiger Nexus overhead is plus on block, with EX Tiger Shot guaranteed into Level 1 Super.

  • Heavy Tiger Knee is always plus on block—even at point-blank.

He appears to be a versatile, mid-range powerhouse.

HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT Adds Neferpitou, Hints at More

New DLC character Neferpitou was announced. Silhouettes strongly indicate Shizuku and Zeno Zoldyck as upcoming characters, pointing toward a full season pass rollout.

NEN×IMPACT continues to gain momentum in the anime fighter space.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Brings Ken Masters and SNK Surprises with Art of Fighting 3

Ken Masters was playable, alongside a patched build hinting at a new balance wave. SNK made a surprising move by announcing a $100,000 prize pool for Art of Fighting 3, a game originally released in 1996.

With a new Art of Fighting game quietly in development, this prize may be setting the stage for a reveal soon.

More Day 1 Highlights

  • 2XKO showed VI in action with new animations and balance tweaks.

  • Multiple panels revealed deeper gameplay mechanics across titles.

  • Developers plan to release hands-on footage for MARVEL Tōkon and other indie games over the weekend.
  • Major announcements are coming Saturday and Sunday.

Expect fireworks during EVO’s final day, with long-rumored surprises potentially dropping soon.
