Battlefield 6 will not require the EA app when played via Steam. Steam username integration is confirmed, streamlining access. Developer Kamal AK and the official website both verified this. The game will feature a powerful upgrade to Portal mode, giving players access to a new spatial editor. In one demonstration, a giant ramp turned the map into an obstacle course. Wingsuit races and jet challenges also appeared. According to DICE producer Alexia Kris, internal tests used custom scripts to create UI changes, AI tweaks, and even new modes like top-down shooters or a purchasable weapon horde mode. These tools use a refined GDOT system, enabling geometry placement, AI scripting, and advanced camera control.
Multiplayer Gadgets, Recon Tools, and Skins
Battlefield 6 brings back ladders—this time with far more utility. These assault ladders can bridge gaps or help players access upper windows for flanks. They even work on vehicles like car rooftops. In the multiplayer trailer, recon players showcased decoys and drones armed with triple C4, detonated via remote with the phrase “bye-bye” displayed. A sledgehammer weapon is seen demolishing floorboards. While not available in the beta, leaked clips show it destroying walls piece by piece. The M26 and M320 return with variants like incendiary and explosive rounds. Mortars are also back, likely featuring smoke and explosive ammo.
Return of Firestorm and Authentic Aesthetics
Operation Firestorm, a fan favorite from BF3, returns with visuals faithful to its roots. Jets need runway takeoffs, possibly with BF3-style color grading. The MP5 with suppressor and red dot was spotted, and two launchers—Javelin and likely the SMAW or M136 AT4—were confirmed. The return of grounded visuals and soldier gear has been a focus. Design director Shashank Uchil emphasized realism, saying the game doesn’t need flashy celebrity skins. Senior producer David Surland added that each class will have unique identifiers, such as recon’s three antennas, and gear like ghillie suits will remain exclusive to their respective roles.
Beta Dates, Specs, Game Modes, and Battle Royale Tease
The open beta begins August 7–8 for EA Play Pro and BF Labs signups, with full access August 9–10. A second weekend runs August 14–17. Minimum GPU: RTX 2060, AMD 5600 XT, or Intel AR 380. Eight game modes are included—escalation is new and reduces objectives as matches progress, increasing intensity.

A sunny Los Angeles-themed battle royale teaser closed the reveal event. A firestorm closes in, and players ride in IFVs and buggies. The mode, teased to enter testing via BF Labs, features squad-based combat and cross-progression. Developers said more classic maps will return post-launch. Console players will get crossplay preferences and graphical upgrades on PS5 Pro. At launch, 40+ weapons and numerous vehicles are planned, with naval combat likely in future updates. Lastly, RPGs now have physics and a minimum explosive range, creating tactical options like bouncing them into close-range targets.
