The Dust Devils Warbond introduces two brand-new missions and expands Helldivers 2 with an underground combat system unlike anything seen before. Squads will now enter deep cave networks, where visibility is limited and stratagems from the Super Destroyer are disabled. This means every squad must fully prepare before deployment, stocking up on ammunition, explosives, and support gear.
Inside the caves, darkness dominates, and communication becomes critical. One player will need to guide the squad using a flashlight, while others focus on clearing tight corridors and defending against waves of Terminid threats. These tunnels are also home to environmental secrets, bug mutations, and hidden lore tied to the Gloom phenomenon. Squad coordination and careful resource management are now more important than ever.
New Enemies: Hive Lord, Dragon Roach, and Terminid Warriors
The developers have confirmed three major threats arriving with this update.
-
Terminid Warrior Species – These fast-moving creatures burrow underground and launch acidic projectiles. They also perform aggressive charge attacks, forcing squads to stay mobile and rely on light to medium-penetration weaponry for quick takedowns.
-
Dragon Roach – A flying insectoid beast that resembles a cousin of the Bile Titan. It unleashes airborne acid attacks and flame-like projectiles. The best countermeasure is to destroy its wings quickly, forcing it to the ground where squads can finish the job.
-
Hive Lord (Rumored) – Community discussions suggest a massive Hive Lord could appear during high-intensity operations. Leaked animations and sound cues hint at its presence, and veteran players from Helldivers 1 are already preparing strategies if it makes its debut.
These additions add more danger and unpredictability, demanding precise aim, team synergy, and smarter positioning.
Two Brand-New Mission Types
The Dust Devils update also brings two unique mission types designed to test squads’ adaptability:
-
Hive Lung Siege
This mission centers around destroying massive Hive Lungs that seem to produce the Gloom fog. Developers suggest using a Hellbomb for maximum efficiency, but weapons like the recoilless rifle or Quasar Cannon might also get the job done. Expect heavy resistance and rapid enemy spawns. -
Mobile Oil Rig Operation
In this mission, squads escort massive oil drill vehicles through hostile Hive World terrain. These rigs come equipped with mounted cannons, enabling squads to fend off incoming Terminids while searching for optimal drilling locations. The mobile defense dynamic changes pacing completely, blending offense and survival tactics.

-
AR-2 Coyote – Assault rifle with incendiary ammunition, ideal for crowd control.
-
G-7 Pineapple – Cluster frag grenade capable of wiping out large bug swarms.
-
S-11 Speargun – Fires a spear that releases a toxic gas cloud, perfect for choke-point setups.
-
EAT-700 Napalm – One-time-use projectile that spreads fire across a wide radius.
-
MS-11 Solo Silo – Deploys a portable missile silo capable of destroying Bile Titans in one strike.
Alongside the weapons, two new armor sets — DS-42 Federation’s Blade and DS-191 Scorpion — introduce the Desert Stormer passive, combining multiple resistances: fire, acid, gas, and arc damage, plus extended throwing range. This makes them versatile for both cave runs and firefights.
