The new Dr. Doom update is live in Fortnite. It has been a while since an Avengers collaboration fully took over. Now, the new Dr. Doom update has added many new Mythic items and even an exclusive Dr. Doom loot island. EMPs have also been added to the game to counter the dominant SUV/car meta that persists in the late game. This post covers everything new in the Dr. Doom Fortnite update.
Gwenpool’s Mythic Dual SMGs
Gwenpool’s Mythic dual SMGs are sold by the Gwenpool NPC outside Reckless Railway for 600 gold, with only one available per match. Gwenpool drops the blue version of this item when eliminated. The Mythic version offers one additional damage and a slightly faster reload speed compared to the legendary version. However, no changes exist in fire rate or attachments, as the weapon cannot receive them. Fans of the Dual SMGs may appreciate this Mythic version, but it is unlikely to sway those who already dislike the weapon.
Mythic Claws
The Mythic claws, a melee weapon, are obtainable through looting or Avengers chests around the map. Players who enjoy melee weapons may find these claws appealing, though they may not be as effective due to the prominence of jetpacks this season. Combatting an opponent using the jetpack while wielding the claws proves difficult, and fighting indoors poses a risk of shotgun damage. The claws may appeal to those who enjoy melee playstyles, but they seem less practical given the current game dynamics.
EMP Grenades
EMP grenades return in this update, dealing 80 shield damage to players within range and disabling electronics like cars. However, they do not disable jetpacks, limiting their effectiveness against airborne opponents. EMP grenades may still serve as a counter to cars, but vehicles play a lesser role this season compared to previous ones. Although useful for disrupting vending machines to gather gold, the overall impact of EMP grenades this season feels less significant.
Dr Doom Challenges and Mythic
The Dr Doom update introduces new challenges and the opportunity to unlock the Dr Doom skin in the battle pass. Doom Island has a 5% chance to spawn, offering a Mythic reward, though the Mythic is not required to complete the challenges. If Doom Island appears, it replaces the Loot Island in the fourth zone. Capturing Doom Island allows players to become Dr Doom, gaining 500 health and shield each (1,000 total) and earning 200 siphon per elimination.
While playing as Dr Doom, players receive unique attack and movement options but cannot use regular items. Healing comes only through eliminations or environmental options like barrels. Dr Doom’s location is marked on the map for others to find. Despite sounding overpowered, its rarity and time limit until October 5th keep it balanced. The low spawn rate might increase as the deadline approaches, giving more players a chance to experience the Dr Doom gameplay.
When Doom Island spawns, it becomes a high-priority target to either prevent others from becoming Dr Doom or claim the power for oneself. Controlling the island early can provide a significant advantage in the game.
