Diablo 4’s Season 9, titled Sins of the Horadrim, officially launched on July 1. With it comes a deep dive into the lore of Donan and a revamped seasonal structure that introduces new mechanics, permanent content, and a more layered endgame. If you’ve been looking for new ways to push your build or dominate nightmare dungeons, this season might be your best shot yet.
Horadric Strong Rooms Now in Nightmare Dungeons (Diablo 4 Season 9)
One of the biggest additions this season is the introduction of Horadric Strong Rooms, fast-paced timed micro dungeons hidden within nightmare dungeon runs. Players must locate a gateway, clear monsters, and then select Horadric Pillars to alter the run before racing against the clock. The stronger your run, the better your score—and your loot.
Strong Rooms are available across both seasonal and eternal realms. Difficulty matters here: higher tiers increase the number of pillars you can select and raise your chances of strong room spawns. If you beat the room’s boss, you’ll earn powerful rewards including legendary gear, Obsite (used for crafting), Horadric Files (the seasonal currency), and a chance at an Escalation Sigil.
Pro tip: revisit and complete the original dungeon where the strong room spawned to receive a bonus buff.
Escalating Nightmares Push Endgame Limits
Escalating Nightmares is a new activity that challenges players to complete three consecutive dungeons on Torment difficulty. Each dungeon adds two new affixes, ramping up the chaos quickly. Those who survive all three face off against Exalted Astaroth—a fearsome boss with a unique duo mechanic.
This activity rewards players with Abstra Sigils, rare crafting items, powerful loot, and a high concentration of seasonal currency. Escalation Sigils can be earned through strong rooms or the seasonal reputation track. Designed for seasoned players, it’s a punishing yet rewarding route through Sanctuary’s most hostile corners.
Heradic Spells Add Deep Customization
The seasonal power system now introduces Horadric Spells—a completely customizable mechanic that lets you alter the behavior, damage type, and targeting of your skills. Each spell starts with a Catalyst, such as Celestial Surge, Astral Pillar, or Propulsion. You can then apply an Infusion (e.g., Fire, Cold, Poison) to change its elemental type and select up to three Arcana modifiers.
Some standout Arcana options include teleportation, vulnerability application, and minion size boosts. You’ll unlock spells and modifiers through the seasonal journey, while Horadric Files and Gem Fragments fuel the upgrades. The system mirrors your skill bar, making it easy to integrate into your current playstyle.
Horadric Jewels and Quality of Life Buffs (Diablo 4 Season 9)
New Horadric Jewels can now be crafted using seasonal currency and tomes from strong rooms. These socketable gems provide powerful effects like bonus monster density, movement speed buffs, or increased critical hit chance. There are 15 unique jewels to experiment with, each suited to specific playstyles.
Other changes in Season 9 include:
-
Mass crafting cost reductions
-
Sigil activation inside dungeons
-
Rebalanced Ashes earn rates
-
One new class-specific unique item
-
Console support for mouse and keyboard
All of these changes combine to give Season 9 one of the most layered experiences since launch.
