Destiny 2 players have discovered a new armor farming glitch that makes it much easier to obtain Tier 5 Ferropotent, Smoke Jumper, and Techsec armor. The exploit changes how Master Lost Sector rewards are decrypted, allowing players to earn high-tier versions of some of the game’s strongest armor sets without farming their usual sources.
The method was shared by a community member on social media and has since been acknowledged by Bungie, with the studio indicating that it does not plan to fix the issue.
How the Armor Glitch Works
The exploit revolves around Master Lost Sector rewards and a full Engram inventory.
Normally, completing a Master Lost Sector awards Tier 5 armor associated with that activity. However, if your Engram inventory is already full when the reward drops, the armor is sent to the Postmaster in the Tower as an unopened Engram.
Instead of decrypting into the Lost Sector’s intended armor set, those Engrams currently reward pieces from one of the following sets:
- Ferropotent
- Smoke Jumper
- Techsec
According to the player who discovered the glitch, this behavior occurs consistently regardless of which Master Lost Sector is completed.
Because Master Lost Sectors also have a chance to award Exotic Engrams, players can quickly fill their Engram inventory and repeat the process multiple times in a short period.
Why These Armor Sets Are Valuable
Armor 3.0 and the Monument of Triumph update introduced powerful set bonuses, making specific armor collections far more desirable than simply chasing high stats.
Ferropotent and Smoke Jumper, in particular, are popular because their two-piece bonuses provide valuable damage reduction effects that fit into many PvE builds.
Under normal circumstances, acquiring these sets can be time-consuming since they typically require Vanguard Engrams, making targeted farming considerably slower than running Master Lost Sectors.
Bungie Says the Glitch Won’t Be Fixed
After the exploit gained attention online, Bungie Community Manager dmg04 responded to the original post, noting that they had encountered the same issue themselves and confirming that the glitch will not be patched.
That means players can continue using the workaround even after the next scheduled game update.
Vanguard Rewards Are Still Being Addressed
Although the armor exploit is expected to remain in place, Bungie has confirmed that a separate issue affecting Vanguard reputation gains introduced with the Monument of Triumph update will be addressed in the upcoming hotfix scheduled for July 7.
Improved reputation gains should make Vanguard armor easier to earn through intended gameplay, but the Lost Sector glitch remains a much faster alternative for players specifically hunting Tier 5 Ferropotent, Smoke Jumper, or Techsec pieces.
With Bungie leaving the exploit untouched, players looking to complete powerful Armor 3.0 builds have a rare opportunity to farm some of Destiny 2’s strongest armor sets far more efficiently than originally intended.
