Flowery is one of the toughest mandatory bosses in Deltarune Chapter 5, serving as the final obstacle before the chapter’s Dark Fountain is sealed. The encounter features multiple phases, unique mechanics, and lengthy attack sequences that test everything you’ve learned throughout the chapter.
Success depends less on dealing damage and more on mastering Flowery’s mechanics, keeping your party alive, and using ACT commands at the right moments.
Learn the SOUL Dash Mechanic
The defining feature of this fight is Kris’s temporary SOUL Dash ability.
Throughout the battle, blue objects and barriers appear during many of Flowery’s attacks. Charging your SOUL allows you to dash through these obstacles, clearing a path while also generating TP.
Building TP is essential because it fuels the ACT commands needed to progress the encounter.
Whenever it’s safe to do so:
- Break blue bamboo and other blue obstacles.
- Prioritize survival over collecting every TP opportunity.
- Avoid taking unnecessary damage simply to destroy additional barriers.
Keeping Susie and Ralsei alive is equally important. Several ACT commands become more effective with the full party, and certain story events won’t trigger if key allies have been knocked out.
Before starting the fight, stock up on healing items such as Green Tea, as the battle is significantly longer than most encounters.
Build Mercy Instead of Attacking
Like several major Deltarune boss fights, defeating Flowery isn’t about reducing his HP to zero.
Instead, you’ll raise his Mercy by using ACT commands throughout the encounter.
Depending on your route, you’ll primarily use:
- Posey, which requires stopping a moving marker with precise timing.
- BlowAway, a rapid button-mashing challenge.
Successfully performing these actions advances the fight and unlocks the next phase.
Surviving the Opening Phase
Flowery’s first phase introduces the mechanics you’ll encounter throughout the battle.
Blue Bamboo
The arena frequently fills with blue bamboo barriers, leaving only narrow openings.
Although breaking bamboo generates TP, don’t feel pressured to destroy every obstacle. Clear only the barriers blocking your path and focus on avoiding damage.
Charge Attack
Flowery occasionally turns blue before charging directly at Kris.
Time your own dash to knock him backward and avoid taking damage. If you’re struggling with the timing, repeatedly tapping the dash input can be more reliable than attempting a perfectly timed press.
How to Beat Aqua and Seth
After enough progress, Flowery summons Aqua and Seth.
Seth
Seth covers large portions of the battlefield with blue danger zones while scrolling text limits movement.
Green words occasionally appear and award TP if collected, but they’re usually not worth risking your health.
Aqua
Aqua introduces moving blue lily pads and waves of incoming knives.
Rather than focusing on every projectile, watch the movement of the platforms and plan your route accordingly. Predicting their positions makes this section much easier.
Defeating Orange and Green
The next phase becomes considerably more demanding.
Here, you’ll repeatedly use the Praise ACT. Having both Susie and Ralsei alive speeds up this section significantly.
Orange also combines attacks with Flowery, forcing you to react to multiple threats simultaneously.
Watch for:
- Dual charge attacks.
- Fake-out charges that transition into flame attacks.
- Bamboo barriers mixed with cactus hazards.
- A wall of advancing thorns.
Instead of trying to clear every obstacle, maintain steady forward movement so the thorn wall never catches up.
Clearing the Blue and Yellow Phase
The final support flowers are Blue and Yellow.
During this section, build enough TP to activate the Justice ACT.
Doing so begins a courtroom sequence where you’ll need to:
- Present Moss as evidence.
- Accuse Flowery.
Completing the trial removes both support flowers and advances the battle.
Exploding flowers are added to the familiar bamboo formations during this phase. Create only the openings you need rather than attempting to destroy every barrier.
Flowery’s Final Form
Once every supporting flower has been defeated, Flowery enters his strongest phase.
Earlier attacks return with increased speed and tighter spacing, including:
- Faster charge attacks.
- Narrower bamboo openings.
- Longer attack combinations.
One particularly difficult sequence requires repeatedly breaking through bamboo walls while successfully countering several consecutive charges.
Continue generating TP whenever it’s safe, but don’t hesitate to heal if your party begins falling behind.
Eventually, Susie’s Idea becomes available as a new ACT option.
This command only appears if Susie is still conscious, making it especially important to keep her alive throughout the encounter.
Escaping the Thorn Maze
Using Susie’s Idea transitions the fight into a climbing sequence.
Kris must navigate a maze of trellises while a wall of thorns slowly rises below.
Although the situation appears urgent, the thorns advance at a relatively slow pace. Careful movement is much safer than rushing, so focus on choosing the correct path rather than climbing as quickly as possible.
Beating the Final Phase
The final stage shifts away from traditional turn-based combat into a side-scrolling action sequence.
As Kris automatically runs forward, Flowery repeatedly charges across the screen.
To counter each attack:
- Strike with your sword at the correct moment.
- Jump before attacking if Flowery approaches from above.
- Stay ready for both ground and aerial charges.
You’ll generally need to counter Flowery around seven or eight times before the battle ends.
Fortunately, this final sequence is more forgiving than several earlier phases, giving you room to recover from occasional mistakes.
Tips for Defeating Flowery
If you’re struggling with the encounter, keep these priorities in mind:
- Prioritize survival over maximizing TP.
- Keep Susie and Ralsei alive whenever possible.
- Use the SOUL Dash to clear only the obstacles blocking your path.
- Heal early rather than waiting until your party is in critical condition.
- Learn each attack pattern instead of relying on quick reactions.
Flowery is one of Chapter 5’s longest and most demanding battles, but once you understand each phase and manage your TP carefully, the fight becomes far more manageable. Patience, resource management, and mastering the SOUL Dash mechanic are the keys to overcoming one of Deltarune’s toughest bosses.
