Recruiting enemies is an important part of completing a Pacifist playthrough in Deltarune Chapter 5. Instead of defeating enemies in battle, you’ll need to resolve encounters peacefully so they can eventually move into Castle Town. However, simply sparing an enemy once isn’t always enough. Many enemy types must be spared across multiple encounters before they’re officially recruited.
Here’s every recruitable enemy in Chapter 5, how many peaceful victories each one requires, and how the recruitment system works.
All Recruitable Enemies in Chapter 5
Chapter 5 features eight recruitable enemy types.
| Enemy | Peaceful Victories Required |
|---|---|
| Floradinn | 1 |
| Kawkaw | 3 |
| Leafling | 4 |
| Netskie | 4 |
| Sheary | 2 |
| Shi | 3 |
| Shinobeetle | 2 |
| Terakota | 1 |
Once you’ve met the required number of peaceful victories for an enemy, that species will become available to join the residents of Castle Town.
How Recruitment Works
The recruitment system follows the same rules introduced in Chapter 2.
To recruit an enemy, you must end battles peacefully using methods such as:
- ACT commands
- Pacify
- Spare after making the enemy vulnerable
Each successful Spare counts toward that enemy’s recruitment requirement. Since several enemy types require multiple peaceful victories, you’ll need to continue sparing them every time they appear until you’ve reached the necessary total.
Only standard enemies can be recruited. Boss encounters are not included in Chapter 5’s recruitment list, so you don’t need to worry about sparing them for Castle Town.
How to Check Recruitment Progress
You can monitor your progress at any SAVE Point by opening the Recruits menu.
This menu displays:
- Every enemy you’ve encountered.
- Which enemies have already been recruited.
- Which enemies still need additional peaceful victories.
Chapter 5 also features an RSVP-style guest list near Castle Town. If every guest has accepted the invitation, you’ve likely recruited every available enemy. Even so, the Recruits menu remains the most accurate way to track your completion progress.
What Does “LOST” Mean?
If you defeat a recruitable enemy through violence during a normal battle, that enemy species becomes LOST.
A LOST enemy can no longer be recruited on that save file, even if you had already made partial progress toward recruiting it beforehand.
Because of this, players aiming for a complete Pacifist run should avoid defeating standard enemies throughout the chapter.
Fortunately, battles inside the Party Dojo do not affect recruitment. You can freely experiment with different party setups or combat strategies there without risking any enemies becoming LOST.
If you’re trying to recruit every available Townsfolk before finishing Chapter 5, make a habit of checking the Recruits menu at SAVE Points, spare every recruitable enemy you encounter, and avoid violent victories during standard battles. If you accidentally mark a species as LOST, the only way to recruit it again is to reload an earlier save.
