Clash Royale: Merge Tactics officially hit the live server. Supercell.com introduces this new game mode, featuring auto-battle mechanics to the mobile strategy game. It is similar to Teamfight Tactics and Clash Mini which used turn-based strategic gameplay. Here’s everything to know about the Clash Royale TFT like game mode, Merge Tactics.

What is Merge Tactics and How Does It Work?

The latest update of Clash Royale introduces completely new content, departing from their traditional gameplay. Clash Royale now plays similarly to TFT with Merge Tactics played as turn-based auto-battler game. It combines the familiar troops alongside strategic depth, where players face off against others in multiple rounds.

Each round consists of two distinct phases which are Deploy and Battle. In Deploy, players manage Elixir to purchase, position, and merge troops from a rotating shop of three options. With this, players will need to build teams while managing limited resources.

The round starts with 4 Elixir while allowing players to sell troops back to the shop. After selling, they will receive their original cost minus 1 Elixir.

On the other hand, the Battle phase automatically operates the clash on the battlefield until a side is eliminated. Your Ruler loses HP equal to the number of remaining enemy troops plus one, if your troops lose the fight. The cycle goes on until only one player’s Ruler survives and hails as the victor.

Troops, Merging System, and Strategic Depth

In this mode, players need to carefully select 20 Clash Royale troops to play. Each maintains classic abilities while being balanced for this format. Its core mechanic involves the merging system where players can combine identical ones to create more powerful versions.

  • 1 star (bronze): Base stats
  • 2 stars (silver): 2× stats
  • 3 stars (gold): 4× stats
  • 4 stars (chromatic): 8× stats

Players receive 1 Elixir for every successful merge they make. With this, players have to cycle through weaker units to earn resource advantages. Moreover, the shared troop pool adds another challenge by having limited copies of each troop available across all players. So, they only have four copies to avoid popular picks among the troops.

Moreover, the team composition focuses on Traits, strengthening the core team. These are special attributes that offer powerful bonuses for multiple troops with the same trait. There are 11 different traits introduced in the game including Ace, Brawler, Goblin, and Undead.

They will need to balance the individual troop strength to provide impressive damage against other troops. For example, the Goblin traits grant free random Goblin troops while the Ace trait offers the highest merge level troop.

What Is Rulers and Modifiers

Now, what are Rulers’ roles in the Clash Royale Merge Tactics? This serves as the cornerstone of each team which is similar to the King Tower in its regular gameplay. Players will start with the Royal King whereas its Royal Commission ability grants +4 Elixir when losing rounds.

Meanwhile, the Spirit Empress offers Fusion Foresight with +1 bonus Elixir for every merge. However, it is only unlocked upon reaching Bronze III. There are 27 seasonal modifiers available in this mode. All these affect players equally in each battle to alter current strategies and gameplay.

It can range from simple bonuses such as Big Bucks or drastic ones like Four Stars and First Choice. In addition, the game will receive regular content updates, potentially offering more new troops, traits, modifiers, and such. While a seasonal content, the first season currently has no set end date.

How to Progress in Clash Royale Merge Tactics

Despite its similar gameplay to TFT, Clash Royale: Merge Tactics has its own progression system. There are 10 leagues ranging from Bronze 1 consisting of 0 trophies to Diamond with over 3,500 trophies. Each round players can earn or lose approximately 30 Merge Trophies while unlocking new badges, modifiers, and one-time rewards.

Players should perform consistently to advance their game. They will also earn Crowns for each round victory while rewarding Battle Rewards to those in the top two positions. With this, it is also important to give your best in every round for bonuses.

Unlike traditional Clash Royale, card levels provide minimal impact with only +2% stat boosts per level. After you’ve reached the Diamond League, players compete for leaderboard positioning throughout the season. Then, they award the league badges by the end of the season. Also, it features Trail rewards which are small quantities of random cards earned through progression milestones.

Final Thoughts

Clash Royale dares something new by introducing a TFT like gameplay in Merge Tactics. It challenges players to build great synergy between their troops and strategize on their placement. Although this is seasonal content, it is still unknown when it will remain available. Moreover, it will have regular updates suggesting it might run longer than it seems.
