Clash Royale’s May 2026 balance changes are live, and this patch is mostly about cutting down cards that were giving top ladder decks too much value. Supercell confirmed nine nerfs, one buff, and one rework, with the update going live on May 4.

Clash Royale: May 2026 (Season 83) Balance Tracker
| Card | Category | Change Details | Tactical Impact |
| Electro Giant | Buff / Rework | Hit Speed 1.8s (was 2.1s); First Hit 1s (was 1.5s). | Faster building-break; slightly less tower damage (Reflected: 97 vs 128). |
| Giant Skeleton | Rework | Death Bomb: 640 (Flat). Tower Damage -40%. | Becomes a purely defensive anchor; tower “cheese” is dead. |
| Spirit Empress | Nerf | HP (Air/Ground) -5% / -3%; Hit Speed 1.2s. | Easier to kill with spells; less overall DPS on defense. |
| Evo Goblin Drill | Nerf | 2nd Submerge Goblins: 1 (was 2). | Massive drop in “unavoidable” chip damage. |
| Evo Royal Hogs | Nerf | Landing Damage: 43 (was 84). | No longer clears Skeletons or low-HP swarms on impact. |
| Evo Tesla | Nerf | Pulse Damage: 148 (was 174). | Weakened against mid-health units like Musketeers or Wizards. |
| Dark Prince | Nerf | Hit Speed: 1.4s (was 1.3s). | Slight reduction in “stutter” DPS during its charge. |
The biggest reason players care is simple, several cards that shaped ranked games just got hit at once. Spirit Empress, Evolved Goblin Drill, Evolved Tesla, Evolved Royal Hogs, Dark Prince, and Skeleton Dragons all took nerfs, while Electro Giant got a buff that could make building matchups less painful.
If you play ladder often, this patch matters right now because some safe deck choices look a lot less safe. The biggest changes are not just about raw numbers either, Giant Skeleton and Electro Giant both got adjustments that change how they function in actual games.

Spirit Empress and Evolutions took the hardest hits
Spirit Empress looks like one of the biggest losers right away because both forms lost durability, and the ground form now attacks more slowly. Supercell said the card had been performing too well in both air and ground roles, so this was a direct hit to her all around strength.
Evolved Goblin Drill also got clipped hard. Supercell said the latest buff had pushed it to the top of the ranked meta, and the new change cuts its second submerge goblin count from two to one, which is a big drop in pressure and chip potential.
Evolved Tesla and Evolved Royal Hogs also lose a lot of free value. Tesla lost pulse damage because Supercell felt the stun plus area damage package was too strong, while Royal Hogs lost nearly half of their landing damage after the airborne effect proved too rewarding.
For ladder players, that means fewer easy carries from cards that were doing too much at once. If your deck leaned on one of these Evolutions to win neutral trades or force awkward defense, you should expect some rough games while adjusting.
Electro Giant may be the biggest winner on ladder
Electro Giant is the clear winner from the official notes because his attack speed and first hit speed both improved. Supercell said buildings had been shutting him down too hard, so the goal here is to help him break through structures while keeping his tower damage output roughly similar overall.
That sounds small on paper, but it matters a lot in real matches. A tank that connects faster and attacks faster can suddenly feel much better into defensive buildings, even if its reflected tower damage number drops.
This does not confirm Electro Giant as the new best win condition. What it does confirm is that Supercell wanted him to be more functional against one of his biggest problems, and that alone makes him one of the patch’s top winners.
Giant Skeleton now looks better on defense than cheese pushes
Giant Skeleton got the strangest change in the patch, and it is probably a healthier one. He now has lower hitpoints and a smaller collision radius, but the death bomb does much more damage to troops and much less to towers.
That shifts his value away from random tower blowups and toward defense, lane control, and bridge fights. Supercell even said the old version felt inconsistent because the bomb often mattered only when it reached a Crown Tower, so this rework tries to make the payoff happen more often in normal troop fights.
For players who like control decks, that is a real reason to test him again. For players who only wanted tower bomb cheese, this is a clear downgrade.
Who wins and who loses after this patch
The biggest winners are easy to spot from the notes. Electro Giant gains the most direct help, and decks that hated facing Spirit Empress, Evolved Goblin Drill, or Evolved Tesla should also feel some relief.
The biggest losers are Spirit Empress, Evolved Goblin Drill, Evolved Tesla, and Evolved Royal Hogs. Dark Prince and Skeleton Dragons are also weaker, though those nerfs look more like efficiency cuts than full meta removals based on the numbers in the patch notes.
Hero Barbarian Barrel and Hero Mega Minion also lose some offensive edge. Supercell’s notes make it clear both changes are meant to stop extra tower pressure and refocus those cards on cleaner combat roles.
What ranked players should test first
If you were climbing with Spirit Empress or Evolved Goblin Drill, start by checking whether your deck still wins the same mid game trades. Those are two of the most directly targeted ladder cards in the update, so even small interaction losses can snowball into worse matchups over a session.
If you already play beatdown, Electro Giant is the first card worth retesting. His faster first hit and attack cycle are the kind of changes that can feel much stronger than they look once buildings show up on defense.
If you prefer slower control lists, Giant Skeleton is the other card to put under the microscope. His new stat profile points more toward defensive bomb value and less toward sneaky tower damage, which could make him more stable in certain control shells.
