Finding Osquio’s Location
Entering the Root of All Evil domain leads you to where Osquio is. However, you can only access it after progressing through the game’s main story. Reaching this optional boss will require you to venture beyond the Gestral carnival area towards the Reverie Path.
You’ll find the entrance to Osquio’s domain by getting near the Gestral merchant. Then, board a train from Verso’s Drafts and disembark to enter a portal proceeding through the area where the expedition flag is. Beyond the flag, you’ll find a set of stairs leading upward to an arena-like space and triggers a cutscene of Osquio.
Osquio’s Attack Patterns
This evil counterpart has a diverse set of attacks across both phases of the battle. For his signature move, he has a very very strong fists that delivers seven consecutive hits. It starts with an illuminated fist, followed by three rapid punches and pauses before hitting three more with a jump then finishing with a powerful downward smash.
On the other hand, his “Osquio thinks he is the fastest ball” lets him roll into position before unleashing 6 rapid successive hits. He also has ranged attack, “Osquio summons his little friends,” summoning five masks shooting in quick succession for a total of 11 hits before falling on your team.
For its most critical attack, “Osquio prepares a drop kick” lands a six-hit combo ending with a Gradient attack. Then, Osquio uses “Osquio decides to destroy the world. Bye bye,” for single Gradient hit to defeat your team.
Phase 1 Strategy: The Stendhal Skip
There’s a strategy you can use to shorten the fight and skip Phase 1 entirely. It centers on using Maelle’s Stendhal ability and enhancing it with multiple damage buffs. Start by having Lune trigger the Auto Death, Burning Death, Greater Powerful, Powerful on Shell, Protecting Death, and Second Chance.
Afterward, equip Sciel with Faster Than Strong and First Strike while Intervention and Marking Card for Maelle. However, make sure that First Strike and Shortcut are active before you cast Last Chance with Maelle. Finally, Maelle will cast Stendhal for massive damage eliminating Osquio’s entire first phase health bar.
Phase 2 Strategy: Managing Barbapapa
Expect tougher challenges during Phase 2 where Osquio uses his most dangerous mechanic, the Barbapapa debuff. Each successful hit from Osquio applies a stack of status effects, reducing all attacks and skills to delay only 1 damage while the stacks remain active. With this, make sure you have characters with cleansing skills like Sciel or Lune.
However, your priority should be keeping Maelle cleansed at all times to allow her spam Stendhal. Or, you can use multi-hit attacks to remove Barbapapa stacks quickly but aimed shots won’t reduce the debuff. So you have to master the Gradient Counter during Osquio’s drop kick attack.
By landing this counter, it will ignore all Barbapapa stacks Osquio has on your allies. It will allow full damage output desire requiring cleansing beforehand. Then, make sure to focus on dodging through the combo instead of risking failed parries.
Rewards and Final Gradient Counter
Once you fully deplete Osquio’s health during Phase 2, the boss immediately takes a turn to destroy the world. This will prompt one final Gradient Parry where your success means winning the fight. To win, you have to time your Gradient parry shortly after Osquio throws the large energy orb.
After winning, you’ll get 2,475,000 EXP, 1 Esquiso, 1 Perfect Chroma Catalyst, 10 Colour of Lumina, and 3 Grandiose Chroma Catalyst. Besides these, you’ll also get an Osquio outfit and haircut for Verso, enabling a unique running animation. Plus, a merchant appears near the flag after victory selling Osquio outfits and such for other party members.
