Where to Find Monsieur Frappe

Traveling towards the Candy Land region of Verso’s Drafts will lead you to a discovery of Monsieur Frappe. Before you locate this optional boss, you have to reach the Candy Land Expedition Flag within the theme park area first. Then, turn to the right side of the carousel to see a large decorative umbrella.

You’ll spot the Monsieur Frappe near this umbrella and be ready to engage in a unique challenge. Also, this boss is entirely optional so you can progress through Verso’s Drafts even without engaging in this encounter. Yet, this challenge will test your parrying skills before rewarding you with exclusive items.

How Monsieur Frappe Challenge Works

This boss is particularly unique as it completely disregards the traditional combat mechanics. Instead, your entire battle will revolve around parrying the attacks of this Gestral boss. You have to parry it for exactly three times to claim victory against the monster.

It doesn’t matter how much health the boss has remaining or how much damage your party deals against him. Also, the parries do not need to be consecutive which means you can fail your next attempt after a successful one.

Best Preparation Strategy

Your preparation should focus entirely on survivability since damage output is irrelevant for this encounter. One of the effective strategies is equipping Pictos, maximizing your party’s health pool. Also, the higher HP provides a larger margin for error, letting you absorb more hits while learning the precise timing.

Plus, don’t worry about selecting optimal weapons or setting up elemental advantage combinations. This boss has no elemental weaknesses, resistances or immunities you can exploit. Just spend your energy preparing how to time parrying his attacks.

Attack Patterns and Parry Timing

This boss uses two primary attack sequences involving the Lollipop attacks and the Brush attacks. When Monsieur Frappe summons his lollipop weapon, he’ll perform a series of swings to bait parry attempts from you. The first 2 swings will never connect with your character and are only meant to deceive you.

The actual parry comes on the third swing, so make sure to count and patiently wait for it. In some variations, you have to wait for the fourth and fifth swing patterns. With his fourth swing, Monsieur Frappe will pause briefly midair before executing your parry.

Meanwhile, only attempt a parry if the lollipop remains visible throughout the animation for the fifth swing. For the sixth attack, it involves a ground stop you have to parry before the impact even occurs. On the other hand, the brush attack consists of 4 distinct movements.

You’ll get an immediate parry opportunity during the first smash as soon as the brush swings downward. Then, the second swing has the easiest parry window where the boss spins before jumping. While the third smash features extended animation providing additional time to execute your parry after the previous attempt.

Plus, you’ll get another parry opportunity once Monsieur Frappe dashes toward you for the fourth and final brush attack. Wait for the first 3 animations to complete fully and parry after he initiates the dash.

Rewards and Final Tips

Once you successfully parry Monsieur Frappe three times, you’ll get 168,750 EXP and the Feint ability. Also, you will receive a Secret Token for mastering the parry mechanics with this challenge. Instead of aggressively attacking the boss, it will be better to observe first.

Focus on identifying which attacks are legitimate threats and which are meant to deceive you. Usually, exaggerated movements are feints while subtle, less dramatic attacks provide the parry windows.

Conclusion

Although optional, Monsieur Frappe is one of the engaging challenges in Expedition 33 Verso’s Drafts DLC. It’ll let you test and practice your parrying skills while providing you with exclusive rewards. Don’t be afraid to take this challenge if you happen to hover around the Candy Land area!
