The Void Claw is Rex Infernus’ Grapple Hook ability in Black Ops 7 Zombies. It gives you a quick way to move around the map, escape dangerous situations, and reach special loot that would otherwise be difficult to collect.
However, you can’t grab the Void Claw as soon as a match begins. You first need to progress through the Pack-a-Punch quest, after which the ability becomes available through Void Pedestals scattered around Rex Infernus.
Here’s how to unlock the Void Claw, where to find it, and how to use the Grapple Hook without accidentally sending yourself out of bounds.
How to Get the Void Claw in Rex Infernus
To unlock the Void Claw, you first need to complete the Pack-a-Punch quest.
Start the match normally and remain in Her House, the spawn area, until Round 3. At this point, you’ll receive a phone call downstairs.
Answer the phone to teleport to the Nexus Force.
From there, you’ll need to work through the following steps:
- Place the World Seed on the pedestal.
- Find and destroy the Dread Skulls around the map.
- Pick up the resulting Usurped Flame.
- Bring the Usurped Flame back to the Nexus Force.
- Repeat the process a second time.
- Rotate the Crank Wheels at the central pedestal.
- Finish opening Pack-a-Punch.
Once Pack-a-Punch has been activated, you’re ready to collect the Void Claw.
Where to Find the Void Claw
After completing the Pack-a-Punch quest, head below the stairs in the Nexus Force.
You’ll find the Void Claw sitting on a pedestal. Activate it to gain access to the Grapple Hook mechanic.
From this point onward, you don’t need to return to this exact location every time you want to use the ability. Void Pedestals around Rex Infernus can provide additional Void Claws throughout the match.
How Void Pedestals Work
Void Pedestals are scattered across Rex Infernus, but they aren’t all active simultaneously.
Look for a pedestal containing a green orb. The green glow indicates that the pedestal currently has a Void Claw available.
Interact with it to activate the ability.
There’s a limited number of Void Claw activations available during each round. When the next round begins, the available Claws can respawn at different Void Pedestals.
That means you shouldn’t expect the same pedestal to always be active. Keep an eye out for green orbs while moving through the map.
How to Use the Void Claw
Activating the Void Claw temporarily replaces your Tactical Equipment.
You’ll have access to it for 30 seconds, but the ability has unlimited uses during that window. This means you can grapple repeatedly rather than worrying about individual charges.
Use the Void Claw with your Tactical Equipment input — L1 on PlayStation or LB on Xbox — while aiming at a valid grapple point.
The Claw will pull you toward the target, allowing you to rapidly move through an area or escape enemies.
How to Get More Height With the Void Claw
There’s an additional movement trick that’s worth learning.
After firing the Void Claw, press Jump while you’re being pulled. Doing so gives you additional upward momentum and can launch you higher than simply allowing the grapple to pull you normally.
This is particularly useful when you need to quickly create distance from a zombie horde or reach a higher position.
Since you have unlimited uses during the 30-second activation period, you can chain grapples together to cover a substantial amount of ground.
Don’t Grapple Out of Bounds
The Void Claw gives you plenty of mobility, but it doesn’t let you freely explore every piece of geometry on Rex Infernus.
Its grapple range is relatively limited, and attempting to use it to reach areas outside the playable map can trigger an out-of-bounds penalty.
If you cross into an invalid area, the game teleports you back to the ground and reduces you to half health.
Be particularly careful when attempting to grapple:
- Onto inaccessible rooftops
- Beyond the intended map boundaries
- Underneath parts of the map
- Toward suspicious pieces of distant geometry
The Void Claw is designed primarily for fast movement through legitimate playable areas rather than sequence-breaking your way around Rex Infernus.
How to Get Secret Loot With the Void Claw
Mobility isn’t the Void Claw’s only purpose.
While exploring Rex Infernus, you can encounter purple orbs that interact with the Grapple Hook.
Aim the Void Claw at one of these orbs and pull it toward you. You can then interact with the orb to make it drop rewards, including Salvage and Equipment.
There’s also a better way to use them.
Instead of immediately collecting the orb yourself, drag it toward one of the skeletons found around the map. Once the orb is close to the skeleton, interact with it there.
Doing this produces additional loot, making the skeleton interaction more rewarding than simply opening the orb normally.
If you’re not under immediate pressure from zombies, it’s therefore worth looking for a nearby skeleton before cashing in a purple orb.
Is the Void Claw Worth Using?
The Void Claw is useful for much more than getting around Rex Infernus faster.
Its 30-second duration and unlimited grapples make it an excellent emergency mobility tool. If you’re being surrounded, a well-placed grapple can quickly move you away from the horde without forcing you to fight your way through.
The purple-orb mechanic also gives the ability an economic purpose, providing extra Salvage and Equipment during a run.
Just remember that Void Claws are limited per round and their active pedestals can change. Grab one when you have a clear reason to use it, take advantage of the unlimited grapples during its 30-second window, and avoid trying to reach rooftops or other out-of-bounds areas unless you’re prepared to lose half your health.
