Cleansing Caltheris’s Sanctuary is a required part of the Rex Infernus main Easter egg in Black Ops 7 Zombies. Although it sounds like a single objective, the ritual actually involves several smaller puzzles, including finding the Shimmering Thread, sacrificing a marked zombie, positioning a laser, and defeating Shadow Souls.
The final step also requires specific weather conditions, so completing everything in the correct order will save you plenty of time.
How to Start Cleansing Caltheris’s Temple
Before working on Caltheris’s Sanctuary, you need to repair the Nexus Forge using the Void Talon.
Once the Forge is operational, interact with the outer, middle, and inner cranks positioned around Pack-a-Punch. Your goal is to rotate the pillars until all three are aligned with Caltheris’s Sanctuary.
When correctly positioned, the Forge will fire a laser beam directly into Caltheris’s mouth.
This confirms that Caltheris is your active temple and allows you to begin the next part of the ritual.
How to Get the Shimmering Thread
The Shimmering Thread is obtained randomly from the purple orbs floating around Rex Infernus.
You’ll need the Void Claw to reach them. Look into the sky for a purple orb, grapple it with the Void Claw, and pull it down toward you. Once the orb is within reach, interact with it to collect its loot.
There is only a chance for the Shimmering Thread to appear, so you may need to open several purple orbs before getting it.
Once the Shimmering Thread drops, pick it up and head to Caltheris’s Main Chamber.
How to Use the Shimmering Thread
Inside Caltheris’s Main Chamber, place the Shimmering Thread into the stone brazier.
The next objective is to ignite it with an Astral Flame.
Return to the Nexus Forge and use the Void Claw to pull another purple orb into the Pack-a-Punch machine. Rotate the Forge’s cranks as required to generate the purple Astral Flame.
Collect the Astral Flame and bring it back to the brazier containing the Shimmering Thread.
Throw the flame into the brazier to ignite it.
If successful, a nearby zombie will become infected with a visible mist. Do not kill this zombie. You’ll need it for the Titan offering.
How to Complete Caltheris’s Titan Offering
Lead the mist-infected zombie to Caltheris’s Passage.
Position it near the Titan Trap and activate the trap while the marked zombie is within its effective area. The zombie should be killed as part of the ritual.
Listen carefully afterward. Caltheris will speak a line of dialogue if the sacrifice was completed correctly.
Once you hear the quote, you can return to Caltheris’s Main Chamber and begin the laser puzzle.
Caltheris Laser Dial Puzzle Solution
Enter Caltheris’s Main Chamber and face east toward the brazier.
There is a stone tablet on the floor nearby. Interact with it and stand directly on top of the plate.
While remaining on the tablet, aim down sights (ADS) and continue holding the aim button. After enough time has passed, the tablet will move and reveal a hidden dial.
Fire a charged Warden’s Blight shot at the mechanism to raise it into the air.
The floating dial will project a laser, but you’ll need to aim it at a very specific section of the chamber.
Where to Aim Caltheris’s Laser
The laser must hit the northeastern wall, slightly to the right of the blue crystal.
You can change the beam’s direction by shooting different parts of the floating dial.
For precise adjustments, concentrate on the middle ring. Shooting the outer ring causes much larger movements and can easily send the laser past the required position.
This step can be finicky, so make small adjustments until the beam is focused on the correct section of wall.
Once it’s aligned, stop shooting the dial.
How to Charge the Laser
Start killing zombies directly beneath the floating dial.
Their souls will be absorbed into the mechanism and power the laser. Continue feeding zombie souls into it until the beam becomes strong enough to break through the targeted wall.
A stone statue will be revealed behind it.
Shoot the statue to release four Shadow Souls into Caltheris’s Main Chamber.
How to Kill the Shadow Souls
All four Shadow Souls must be eliminated before you can finish this stage of the ritual.
You can damage them with regular weapons, but Light Mend and Warden’s Blight are particularly effective against them.
Search around the entire chamber until you’ve killed all four.
Once the last Shadow Soul is dead, attack the stone statue again until it is completely destroyed. Doing so ends the lockdown and opens the way to the final cleansing ritual.
How to Cleanse Caltheris’s Temple
Grab a Void Claw and head into Caltheris’s Passage.
Find another purple orb and pull it toward the stairs beneath Caltheris’s head. You want the orb positioned so that it has a clear path upward toward the statue.
Once the purple orb is correctly placed, hit it with a charged Warden’s Blight shot.
The orb should launch upward into Caltheris’s head, causing it to glow purple. If this doesn’t happen, reposition the orb and try again.
You now need to make it rain.
Travel to the blue well in Veytharion’s Sanctuary, which becomes accessible through the earlier blocks puzzle. Interact with the well to trigger rain during the following round.
Once the rain begins, obtain another Astral Flame from the Nexus Forge.
Return to Caltheris and throw the Astral Flame directly at her forehead.
If the previous steps were completed correctly and it’s currently raining, lightning will strike Caltheris’s Sanctuary, completing the cleansing ritual.
Caltheris’s Sanctuary Steps in Order
For a quicker reference, complete the Caltheris ritual in this order:
- Repair the Nexus Forge with the Void Talon.
- Align the three Forge cranks with Caltheris’s Sanctuary.
- Pull down purple orbs using the Void Claw until you obtain the Shimmering Thread.
- Place the Shimmering Thread inside the brazier in Caltheris’s Main Chamber.
- Generate an Astral Flame at the Nexus Forge.
- Ignite the Shimmering Thread.
- Lead the mist-infected zombie to Caltheris’s Passage.
- Kill it using the Titan Trap.
- Interact with the stone tablet in Caltheris’s Main Chamber.
- Stand on the tablet and ADS until the hidden dial appears.
- Raise the dial using a charged Warden’s Blight shot.
- Aim its laser at the northeastern wall, just right of the blue crystal.
- Kill zombies underneath the dial to charge the laser.
- Shoot the revealed stone statue.
- Kill all four Shadow Souls.
- Destroy the statue to end the lockdown.
- Pull a purple orb beneath Caltheris’s head.
- Hit the orb with a charged Warden’s Blight shot.
- Use the blue well in Veytharion’s Sanctuary to trigger rain.
- Obtain an Astral Flame.
- Throw the Astral Flame at Caltheris’s forehead while it’s raining.
The resulting lightning strike will cleanse Caltheris’s Sanctuary, completing another major objective on the path toward finishing the Rex Infernus main Easter egg.
