Black Ops 7 Multiplayer: No Pick 10, but Classic Maps Return

Fresh leaks suggest that specialist abilities could make a comeback in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. According to Ghost of Hope, a well-known source for COD leaks, players may once again see abilities like Active Camo and a Grapple Hook. Active Camo would function as a cloaking tool, making players nearly invisible, while the Grapple Hook could introduce fast mobility into matches. Both mechanics have existed in earlier entries such as Black Ops 3 and Black Ops 4, where they drew mixed reactions. Some players loved the tactical creativity, while others felt abilities disrupted the gunplay balance. If these abilities return in a less extreme form, they could freshen up multiplayer without overwhelming its core pacing.

No Pick 10 System in Black Ops 7

Another leak may disappoint long-time fans: Black Ops 7 reportedly will not feature the Pick 10 Create-a-Class system. First seen in Black Ops 2, Pick 10 let players assign ten points across weapons, perks, and equipment to build custom setups. It encouraged trade-offs—skip grenades for extra attachments or run fewer perks to strengthen firepower. Many still regard it as the best loadout system in Call of Duty history.

Instead, Treyarch appears to be sticking with the current Gunsmith model, where players equip five attachments per weapon along with perks and secondaries. Compared to modern systems like Battlefield’s 100-point weapon customization, this approach may feel restrictive. The absence of Pick 10 leaves some fans worried that Black Ops 7 will limit creativity in class building.

Black Ops 2 Maps Returning in Black Ops 7

The maps may deliver the most nostalgia in Black Ops 7. Ghost of Hope reports that Black Ops 2 maps Raid, Express, and Hijacked will return at launch. Players continue to favor these maps, as they appeared in competitive play and received remasters in multiple titles. Raid has become a staple across Call of Duty releases, while Express and Hijacked both stand out for their unique layouts. Leaks suggest that nearly all Black Ops 2 maps have already been rebuilt for Black Ops 7, with the plan to roll them out season by season. This means the launch pool should focus mostly on brand-new maps, with the remasters filling in over time. It mirrors how Modern Warfare 3 balanced its content drops—fresh maps first, legacy maps later—helping keep the experience from going stale too quickly.

Post-Launch Plans and Ground War Mode in Black Ops 7

Post-launch support has become a defining factor for Call of Duty. Modern Warfare 3 set the gold standard with weekly challenges, events, and aftermarket parts. Black Ops 7 is reportedly aiming to match that level of content. Players may expect weekly challenges that unlock cosmetics, new attachments, and seasonal rewards, bringing a steady reason to return each week. If accurate, this would be a significant improvement over Black Ops 6, which often felt inconsistent with events.

Not every leak sounds positive, however. Early reports on the new Ground War–style mode in Black Ops 7 are mixed. While it may feature wingsuits for movement—something teased in trailers—it may lack the scale and intensity that fans of Ground War have enjoyed in past COD entries. This could limit its appeal unless Treyarch refines the mode before launch. Still, if the studio delivers a strong lineup of 6v6 maps and consistent post-launch content, the overall package could satisfy players who felt let down by Black Ops 6.
