To get Shiny in Big Walk, you need to find a hidden paint palette inside the underground tunnel network. The palette contains Bronze, Silver, and Gold metallic paints, but finding it is only half the challenge: another player must use one of those colors to paint your character. Doing so unlocks the Big Makeover achievement, which is optional for the story but necessary for 100% completion.
What Is Shiny in Big Walk?
Shiny refers to the three metallic colors available from a secret palette hidden underground. Unlike the regular paints you may encounter while exploring, these special colors are tied to Big Makeover.
The palette contains:
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
You don’t need to apply all three. Being painted with any one metallic color is enough to satisfy the achievement requirement.
Before you can reach the palette, however, you’ll need access to Big Walk’s tunnel system.
How to Unlock the Underground Tunnels
The primary route into the tunnels is connected to the Yellow Tower progression.
You’ll first need to gather five red MacGuffins and complete the puzzles required for the Yellow Tower. This eventually provides a key that must be processed through several keyholes before it can open the tunnel system.
The basic progression is:
Collect 5 red MacGuffins → complete Yellow Tower → get the key → process the key through 3–4 keyholes → unlock the tunnels
Another option is to progress through the Green Tower and activate the elevator leading toward the Yellow Tower.
Once you’ve gained tunnel access, you can begin searching for the hidden metallic palette.
How the Big Walk Tunnels Work
The underground network consists of interconnected areas identified by different colors, including yellow, blue, green, red, and purple sections.
Navigation can be confusing because of the similar corridors and multiple intersections. Pay attention to the colors of the tunnels, floor markings, and tower indicators rather than relying entirely on memory.
You should also bring or pick up a flashlight. Some sections are extremely dark, and navigating without one makes it much easier to miss a turn.
There are two useful approaches to the Shiny palette depending on where you enter.
Shiny Palette Route From the Yellow Tunnel
If you’re already around the Yellow Tower, this is the more direct route.
Enter the underground tunnel and turn right immediately. Continue until you reach the nightclub area containing the DJ booth.
Walk through the nightclub and use the doors at the back to continue deeper into the tunnels.
From there:
- Continue through the red hallway.
- Enter the green tunnel.
- At the fork, take the right-hand red path.
- Ignore the route descending to your left.
- Keep moving straight until you reach a purple room with arches.
- Follow the ramp downward.
- Look for the hidden palette at the bottom.
The palette contains the three metallic paints needed for Big Makeover.
Shiny Palette Route From the Blue Tunnel
Players around the Blue Tower or Blue Lighthouse may find the Blue Tunnel entrance more convenient.
Enter the tunnel and grab a flashlight if you don’t already have one. Continue until you reach a fork and locate the marker pointing toward the Green Tower.
Turn right and descend to the lower level.
Once there, find another Green Tower marker. Take the tunnel immediately to the right of that marker and continue into the green section.
Next:
- Follow the green section.
- Turn left into the red tunnel.
- Cross the green bridge.
- Continue until you reach the red structure within the purple area.
- Head down on the right-hand side.
- Continue through the purple section.
- Find the metallic paint palette.
This is the same palette reached through the Yellow Tunnel route, so there’s no need to complete both journeys.
Which Tunnel Route Is Faster?
Your current location should determine which entrance you use.
If you’re around the Yellow Tower, take the Yellow Tunnel route. It’s the more straightforward option from that side of the island.
If you’re closer to the Blue Lighthouse or Blue Tower, entering through the Blue Tunnel saves you from traveling back toward Yellow first.
Both paths ultimately converge on the same hidden palette in the purple section of the underground network.
How to Use Shiny Paint
Once you’ve reached the palette, choose Bronze, Silver, or Gold.
There’s one crucial detail: you cannot earn Big Makeover simply by painting yourself.
A teammate needs to use the metallic paint on your character. Have another player take the paintbrush, load it with one of the three Shiny colors, and paint at least part of your body.
You don’t need a complete metallic makeover. Applying the paint to one part of your character should be enough to trigger the achievement.
Can You Unlock Big Makeover Solo?
No. Based on the achievement requirement, Big Makeover requires interaction with another player.
You can find the palette yourself, but another person needs to apply the Shiny paint to your character. This fits Big Walk’s broader emphasis on cooperative interactions between players.
If you’re working toward 100% completion, make sure you handle this achievement while you have another player available rather than leaving it for a solo cleanup session.
What to Do if Big Makeover Doesn’t Unlock
If you’ve found the palette but haven’t received the achievement, first confirm that you’re actually using one of the special metallic colors rather than ordinary paint.
Then check that:
- Another player applied the paint to you.
- The paint was Bronze, Silver, or Gold.
- The metallic color visibly reached at least one part of your character.
- You’re playing in a session where another player can perform the required interaction.
You don’t need all three colors, and there’s no requirement to cover your entire character.
For the quickest route to Big Makeover, unlock Big Walk’s tunnels, enter through whichever side is closest, follow the colored passages into the purple underground area, and locate the secret metallic palette. Once there, have a friend paint you with Bronze, Silver, or Gold to become Shiny and add Big Makeover to your 100% completion checklist.
