Big Walk takes roughly 9 to 12 hours to beat if you’re primarily focused on completing the main adventure. Players going for everything can expect to spend closer to 20 hours exploring the island, solving optional puzzles, and cleaning up remaining objectives.
Those numbers can vary considerably, though. Big Walk is a cooperative game built around communication, exploration, and figuring things out with your friends. A group that immediately understands the puzzles will finish much faster than one that spends half an hour arguing about what a strange button is supposed to do.
How Long Is Big Walk?
Here are the approximate Big Walk completion times:
| Playstyle | Estimated Playtime |
|---|---|
| Main story | 9-12 hours |
| Typical first playthrough | Around 12 hours |
| Completionist | Around 20 hours |
Our own playthrough took approximately 12.5 hours to complete the main adventure, putting it toward the upper end of the expected story playtime.
For story completion, the important milestone is reaching the game’s ending and unlocking the Big Goodbye achievement.
However, getting Big Goodbye doesn’t mean you’ve seen everything Big Walk has to offer. You can continue playing and work toward additional puzzles and objectives after reaching the first ending.
Why Big Walk Playtime Varies So Much
Unlike a linear adventure where every player follows essentially the same route, Big Walk gives groups plenty of freedom to determine their own pace.
The biggest variable is puzzle-solving.
Some challenges can be completed within minutes if someone immediately understands the mechanic. Others can bring the entire group to a halt while everyone searches the surrounding area for a clue or experiments with different solutions.
Because many puzzles rely on players sharing different pieces of information, communication can have an enormous impact on your total playtime.
A well-organized group might quickly establish roles and relay clues. A less coordinated group can spend significantly longer trying to understand information that another teammate has already discovered.
Does Player Count Affect How Long Big Walk Takes?
It can.
Having more players gives you more people to search for clues, transport objects, and investigate different areas simultaneously. That can make some sections substantially faster.
However, bigger groups aren’t automatically more efficient.
More players also means more voices, more ideas, and more opportunities for someone to wander away while the rest of the team is trying to solve a puzzle. Big Walk deliberately encourages this kind of social chaos, so the fastest group isn’t necessarily the largest one.
A coordinated team will generally progress faster than a larger group that constantly splits up without communicating.
Exploration Can Add Several Hours
Big Walk isn’t designed to push you relentlessly toward the next objective.
The island contains plenty of places to explore, tools to experiment with, and distractions that have little to do with immediately finishing the game. If your group enjoys wandering around and investigating anything that looks interesting, your playtime will naturally increase.
Travel time can also add up, particularly before you’ve unlocked more convenient ways to move around the island.
Players focused almost entirely on progression should therefore land closer to the 9-12 hour range, while groups that regularly leave the main route could easily go beyond it.
How Long Does It Take to 100% Big Walk?
Plan for approximately 20 hours if you want a more complete Big Walk playthrough.
Reaching the first ending isn’t the end of everything available on the island. Completionists still have additional content to discover and objectives to finish, potentially adding several hours beyond the main adventure.
Your final number will still depend on how quickly your group solves puzzles and how much help you use. Players attempting to figure everything out without guides will naturally take longer.
So, how long does it take to beat Big Walk? Around 9-12 hours for the main adventure is a reasonable estimate, with roughly 20 hours for completionists. But this is one game where getting distracted with your friends is very much part of the experience.
