The new Valorant Controller meta is changing with the upcoming map pool adjustments. Icebox and Lotus will be excluded, while Pearl and Split will be reintroduced. With this shift happening in about a month, it’s essential to focus on the relevant maps. Having analyzed three different VCT seasons, dating back to 2022, here’s a breakdown of how each Valorant Controller performs on various maps.
Abyss Map
Abyss, the new map, has seen notable Valorant Controller usage. Even when Astra had only four stars, she managed a solid 50/50 win rate, making both Astra and Omen viable choices. However, with Astra’s buff, teams will likely favor her over Omen due to Omen’s range restrictions on larger maps. On Abyss, double controller comps (Astra and Omen) have already shown success. Teams like EDG, the Champs winners, demonstrated the potential of running this strategy.
Ascent Map
Despite popular belief that Ascent is an Omen-dominated map, Astra has also dominated here. In 2022, Astra had a 52% win rate in non-mirror games on Ascent. While the meta may have shifted towards Omen in recent seasons, Astra remains a viable choice, especially if considering her performance when she had five stars.
Bind Map
Bind is traditionally known as a Brimstone map. Even with the Astra buff, Brim consistently outperforms her on this map. For instance, Astra had a poor 9-18 record in 2022, while Brim’s utility, including his ult and molly, continues to make him the best Valorant Controller for Bind. Viper also appears as a secondary controller on this map, but Brimstone remains the dominant choice.
Haven Map
While Haven has long been associated with Omen, the stats suggest Astra is the better choice. In 2022, Astra boasted a 63% win rate in non-mirror games, and even in 2023, she maintained a strong 67% win rate. Omen’s one-way smokes aren’t as impactful on Haven, and Astra’s ultimate provides significant value, particularly in retakes. Haven should be considered more of an Astra map moving forward.
Pearl Map
Pearl has historically favored Astra. Even before her buff, Astra was the dominant Valorant Controller on this map. Omen never quite found a foothold here, and the meta often centered around Astra or Harbor/Viper combinations. With Astra’s recent buff, expect her to continue as the primary Valorant Controller on Pearl, possibly alongside Viper.
Split Map
Split’s Valorant Controller meta has long favored Omen, even when Astra had five stars. In 2022, Omen slightly outperformed Astra, and by 2023, Omen became the go-to choice. The map’s verticality and the effectiveness of Omen’s teleport and flashes make him a better option on Split. Double controller setups, like Astra/Omen or Astra/Viper, have also been used, but Omen remains the preferred Valorant Controller on Split.
Sunset Map
Sunset, being a newer map, only has data from 2024. While Fnatic tried Astra with limited success, Omen remains the more popular pick. Sunset’s fast pace and synergy with Neon favor Omen’s playstyle. Certain areas, like the verticality at the back of A-site on defense, make Omen’s teleport especially useful. Most teams will likely stick with Omen on Sunset.
