Where to Find Your Ikran

Before you can bond with an Ikran, participate in the “Take Flight” quest in Chapter 11 of the main story first. Although it appears relatively late in the game, you still have plenty of content to explore with your new companion. To start the quest, here’s what you need to do:

    1. Head over to the Ikran Rookery in the floating mountains south of the Glade of Light area. This is near the Aranahe Hometree.
    2. Then, meet with Nefika, an NPC that will guide you through the bonding process.
    3. The mission mainly involves climbing and traversal mechanics as you climb high into the clouds.
    4. Use Mermaid Tail plants to launch yourself across the gaps.
    5. Make sure to unlock Gateway Lillies along the way.
    6. Afterwards, you’ll encounter an unruly Ikran.
    7. Slowly move toward the creature and attempt to soothe it multiple times.
    8. On your third attempt, successfully establish the neural bond connecting Na’vi with flying mounts.
    9. Follow the bond and customize your Ikran by selecting the name and color pattern.
    10. Carefully choose the name since it’ll be permanent. Still, you can change the color pattern as you wish.

Basic Flight Controls and Mechanics

After bonding with an Ikran, you can start summoning it during your exploration. Just simply press the D-pad on your controller or H on keyboard to call your mount. This works both on solid ground where Ikran can land nearby for mounting.

Meanwhile, falling through the air will allow it to dramatically catch you mid-descent. To fly these Ikran, here are the control mechanics to keep in mind:

Control

Movement

Move forward on left stick/ press W

Accelerates your Ikran

Pulling back / pressing S

Decelerates your Ikran

Pull back far enough

Hover your mount stationary in mid-air

A or D keys / corresponding stick movements

Strafing left and right with Ikran

Spacebar (PC), X (PS console), A (Xbox)

Quick bursts of speed (Each press causes it to flap their wings powerfully)

Left control (PC), Circle (PS console), B (Xbox)

To land Ikran close to the ground (Hold this to dismount at any altitude)

Aerial Combat Capabilities

Ikran also serves as a formidable combat platform even when flying. Your standard shooting mechanics remain functional while mounted including aiming, firing, ammunition, switching, and more. Plus, the weapon wheel operates identically to ground combat.

Moreover, it’s important to master the Free Lock mechanic which lets you survey your surroundings. With this, you can attack enemies behind you while your Ikran maintains the flight path. During Free Lock, you can manually adjust your mount’s direction by holding Shift on keyboard or pressing left analog stick.

Meanwhile, advanced players can unlock the “Flying Takedown” skill in Memories of the Rider Skill Tree. This powerful ability allows your Ikran to destroy staggered RDA Scorpions and Samson by aiming at them. Then, press Square/X on controllers or E on keyboard when in close proximity with them.

Conclusion

Make sure to complete the mission to access Ikran in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. It allows you to navigate through Pandora’s skies while offering a completely new flying experience. So, ready to master your new mount Ikran as you traverse across its expansive map.
