Assassin’s Creed Mirage Valley of Memory Update Brings AlUla Adventure

The Assassin’s Creed Mirage team has revealed a free expansion titled Valley of Memory. This new storyline continues Basim’s journey, diving deeper into his personal history and exploring his connection with his long-lost father, Is’haq. Ubisoft Bordeaux and Ubisoft Paris collaborated to create this new chapter, set just before the final events of Mirage.

The team describes Valley of Memory as a major part of Basim’s coming-of-age story. It brings a blend of nostalgia and discovery, staying true to Mirage’s focus on stealth, parkour, and assassination while introducing new challenges. The content is available as a free update for all players on PS5 Pro, Steam, and iOS, celebrating two years since the game’s release.

The Setting of AlUla

The story takes place in AlUla, a valley in the Arabian Peninsula filled with ancient history and archaeological sites. The developers worked with historians and archaeologists to reconstruct how the region might have looked in the 9th century. AlUla’s heritage includes the Kingdoms of Dadan, Lihyan, and the Nabataean Kingdom, which expanded from Petra to Hegra during the 1st century BCE.

Ubisoft recreated notable landmarks like the Musa ibn Nusayr Fort, the old town of AlUla, and the UNESCO site of Hegra. Players can expect to explore lively markets, quiet oases, and the dangerous rock-cut tombs that dot the northern areas. The team focused on maintaining a balance between realism and engaging gameplay while highlighting AlUla’s role as a historical hub along the Incense Road.

Gameplay Changes and Additions

The Valley of Memory update goes beyond new story content. It introduces several gameplay improvements and features that refine the Mirage experience. Players can now replay main missions from Basim’s journey and earn new rewards. Parkour has also been updated with smoother movement options, including a new “free jump” mechanic that makes navigation more fluid.

The expansion adds fresh contracts, side missions, and parkour challenges. A new antagonist, ‘Abis, leads a band of robbers terrorizing the valley, providing an additional threat as Basim searches for his father. Players can also enjoy small touches like playing the oud instrument, showing Ubisoft’s commitment to cultural detail.

With over six hours of new gameplay and an entirely new region, Valley of Memory serves as both a farewell and a tribute to fans of Mirage. The developers have included visual filters inspired by previous Assassin’s Creed titles like Origins and Odyssey, offering a nostalgic layer to this expansion.

Ubisoft calls this update “a final bow” to celebrate the franchise’s legacy and the community that supported Mirage. It bridges the past and future of Assassin’s Creed storytelling, providing one last meaningful chapter in Basim’s evolution from thief to master assassin.
